Despite having lived here for 9-11 (no pun intended) months so far, I am only loosely engrossed with NYC politics lol. I think keeping up with Chicago & DC from afar + loose tabs on Baltimore & Philly have put me at political capacity 😭

Yes!
One step closer towards being able to build the intrastate bus system Illinois needs
🎉 BIG NEWS: the Community Development Commission just unanimously voted to recommend that City Council purchase Chicago's intercity bus terminal!
This is a HUGE step forward in our years of advocacy to save intercity bus travel in Chicago.
Yes, a Cicero-Montrose-Kostner-Irving Park loop would be likely be easiest on paper, but still has a few logistical issues. Chief one is suitable layover; unlike with say, 47th Red, there isn’t a dedicated space at Montrose Blue, so any bus would just be laying over in the travel lane
Especially since there is no easy solution, unlike with say, Mont Clare Metra, where the solution is “easy” (it just requires capital dollars) or the 315 extension, which is just a bump to operating dollars
I think my first Medium article is going to be on how to fix this unfortunate coincidence occurring at Montrose/Cicero
Hi all— I've recently decided to start selling prints! This is all transit photography, from around the US (main focus on Chicago, DC & New York). Take a look here!

Which, ironically enough, would include the 147. I know Urbanist Chicago really loves the idea of deleting this route, but it’s routinely in the top 20 for the system and until we get like <5 min red line for a majority of the day, there are better targets for improvement
There’s truth to what you’re saying but it doesn’t account for situations like the one I just referenced above. Too many people are NIMBY b/c they have a “F U, I got mine” mentality, not because they have a legitimate fear of being next to be displaced
I agree with this in principle, but in reality, too many of these communities are hypocritical, engage in “othering” & are very willing to pull the ladder up behind them.
What sense is there in cherishing & embracing mem. of a 42-sty condo community that don’t want a 36-sty one going up next door?
Like so, SO many things in our greedy, selfish, stupid, pretentious, entitled society, this is case of something meant for the disabled being so grossly abused by everyone for personal convenience that the inevitable backlash will ultimately result in life being harder for disabled people
Lowkey it’s kind of annoying that the NICTD/SSL station and the Amtrak station aren’t in the same place. And with the Amtrak station so far outside Dyer anyhow, they should move the Amtrak station back
The house version is the one that’s made more progress, but ultimately not sure what the fate is of either one? @nikhunder.com do you know more?

Should I start a substack? Or a medium?
$10.32 ride in NYC & $5.55 in DC, and all three agencies use the same bike. This doesn’t have much to do with your original post, the contrast was just interesting
Which we should really bring back + mag mile center running
This is at least better and still useful compared to the idea I saw where the premise was the same as yours (not going to Broadway), but just proposed tail tracks instead
Many airports are not inside their city limits but are so named after the largest and most recognizable city nearby, especially if it’s the only one. Are IAD, DCA, BWI, RDU, RIC, SFO, etc all misnamed?
New video. It’s like when I upload a YouTube short, except this one’s long.
I think you’ll be pretty shocked at just how absurd this truly law is 👀
Literally the bane of my existence since moving to NYC is T5 at JFK, I’ve never had such a consistently bad experience at an airport before lol
It’s 8:37a and while it’s my fault for not checking before I tapped in, it’s still insane that my would-be walk (11 mins) is shorter than the wait times for 1 of 6 (!!!) westbound services
Hell, I would be happy if most people understood the difference between capital funds and operating funds.
Still in awe that Stratton’s race ended up being JB Khan vs the CBC in the background lol
Yeah, after thinking about it for an another day, I think the MFL might be my worse heavy rail experience in North America, and I’ve been on 17/22 of the total systems! If I count only America, I’ve been on all 14 and the MFL would still rank bottom
Monon corridor starts 3/31 and I will be in town and riding on Friday 4/3! Let me know if you want to join along
