In the latest issue of #GENETICS, Hewitt et al. identify a new gene, the sisters separate (Ssep) in #Drosophila that is essential for centromere cohesion during meiosis and suggest that ssep encodes a new member of the centromere-specific cohesin complex. buff.ly/vz7Qycv

Lab dinner with Hideyuki Lab @Zohara. Congrats for fantastic talk and graduation, Burak! We all miss you😭
except of a student in my lab..
Yeah, but there definitely are exceptions. I went to Hartford Stand up and a guy can be categorized for "old white man professor" was the only person I saw from our entire campus :)
My student Burak did a very careful job to to test a lineage marking system using live imaging plus math modeling to figure out if it is actually working or not! Great job, you are the best!

Loved that speech👍
Oh, these look great. I still don't know what to say in the sign cus I'm too mad. Anyway, I will be there at 1!
📣Today is the day we Stand Up For Science 📣!!
Hartford CT State Capitol. 1 PM Rally. @standupforscience.bsky.social thank you for organizing this!
Another great addition to our program @standupforscience.bsky.social !!!
I have mentored some of the most talented undergraduate students under this program. They have all continued on to successful careers in biomedical research thanks in large part to this experience. The loss of talent will be devastating.
The event sign up for the Stand Up for Science March in Hartford is open! Connecticut folks- See you on March 7! www.eventbrite.com/e/stand-up-f...
The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.
Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025!
Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide!

In these tumultuous times, it is worth remembering that as researchers of the most complex and fundamental aspects of life, our job is to solve nearly impossible problems at the very edge of what is known
Push research ever forward. Future generations will be glad we did

I've met with many cabinet nominees across many admins, and my meeting with RFK Jr. was by far the most troubling.
He rattled off debunked conspiracy theories & lied to my face—denying his own statements he'd made on record. We cannot confirm an anti-vaxxer as Secretary of Health.
The negative consequences of disassembling the federal government will be felt later by most ppl, more immediately by others. Musk & the ideologues around him know that. That's why they're moving so fast, before the horrors of their libertarian dystopia become apparent & a course correction happens.
Musk's propaganda focusing on individual items in US AID's budget is part of the authoritarian assault on the concept of "a public good." By turning every penny the US gov't spends into a topic of public deliberation (and potential ridicule), they are trying to turn people against democracy itself.
In case I can continue my lab😂
Ok scientists. How do we respond? Scientific strike starting on Monday? Something has to be done to let people know what is going on.
