finally I had some time and mental space (and emotional space) to test claude code. Genuinely impressed with the output and had really fun working with it for a two hours session with only prompting (warning: niche project about logic puzzles and nim language). github.com/pietroppeter...

I have been playing with a new kind of puzzle a word based mini sudoku where you have clues with word to insert (it is basically the seek and spell sudoku found on gmpuzzles minus the arrow and minified). It is fun. My 6 year old also has fun with it. Working name: parloku

At the same time I do not like the fact that I feel I need to hesitate in sharing articles I find interesting about AI just to avoid the controversy. Mild intention to better in this regard from now on.

At the same time I have wanted for some time to give a proper run to AI assisted coding but have not yet found time to properly do it. Various reasons, including the fact that I have been very busy transitioning to a management position; also, I want to start with SWE tasks and not Data Science ones

State of mind: I both like and find convincing @antirez.bsky.social’s article, but also happen to find interesting and recent NL by @felienne.bsky.social (found here in NL, but easy to read through an automatic translation) about the harms of AI. Not easy emotionally.

Hello, friends! After 10(!) years of #AdventOfCode, I've made some changes to preserve my sanity: there will be 12 days of puzzles each December (still starting Dec 1) and there is no longer a global leaderboard. Read more:

“Luxury is a necessity for many people who want to feel a sense of dominance over others. But others—if they are civilized people—know that luxury is pretense. If they are ignorant, they will admire and perhaps envy those who live in luxury. But who cares for the admiration of the ignorant?” 2/3

“Luxury is the manifestation of uncivilized wealth that wants to impress those who have remained poor.
It reveals giving importance to appearances and a lack of interest in everything that represents cultural elevation. It is the triumph of appearance over substance.”

Luxury is not a design problem. From an industrial design methodology book. Very interesting book (besides the luxury quote) that seems relevant also for data projects (and now I am wondering what is luxury in that context)

Nice two weeks of remote work in #Catania are coming to an end. Productive work, enjoyed time with local colleagues, and managed also to put in a weekend in Lipari and a very nice conference on Vulcanology by @borisetneo.bsky.social. But nothing beats having a swim and granita before work ;) 🌊 🌋 🐘
