AI is an absolutely exemplary intensification of the logic of extraction in the realm of symbolic reproduction. 10/10.

To my horror, I found myself unconsciously crossing the to shady side of Broadway yesterday. Too soon.

Amidst everything else, the Trump regime has quietly killed off the U.S. Forest Service 🌲
“One hundred and ninety-three million acres of your national forests… just handed, on a silver platter, to the people who’ve spent their entire careers trying to destroy it.”

All power to the faculty of Portland Community College. It’s very close, even identical to our @CfuUaw win in very important ways. You organized, stood strong, and forced better working conditions for yourselves and thus better learning conditions for your students. Lfg.

The Irish government (of which Micheál Martin was a member) was told years ago how Finland solved homelessness through implementing Housing First.
Ireland chose not to do the same, and now has more than 17,000 people in emergency accommodation, with tens of thousands more "hidden homeless".
That Galician sensibility…
See Elizabeth Anderson’s response to Cowen in her Tanner Lectures “Private Government”. Absolutely takes him to the woodshed, and in the process displays how a serious intellect operates. I almost felt embarrassed for him, but I know he is shameless. So I think about it from time to time and laugh.
I can feel the stress all the way in my neighborhood.
Unit members are celebrating the contract this morning at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire Memorial 🥹 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at Washington & Greene in Manhattan.
Congratulations @brendanjh.bsky.social and everyone!
The average raise from our September 2025 to September 2026 salaries will be approximately 20%. Everyone will get a $6,000 raise for this academic year, and no one will receive less than a $14,000 raise by 2026-27. Our lowest paid and longest-serving colleagues will receive substantially larger raises; we won a meaningful salary decompression adjustment (click here to calculate your projected increases over the life of the agreement). Finally, we won fixed 3.5% increases for everyone in each subsequent year of the contract.
Look at these gains. Look at them! WHEN WE FIGHT WE WIN!
WE HAVE GOOD NEWS! Just now, after nearly 17 months of negotiations, we finally reached the strong tentative agreement we need and deserve. We won the highest minimum salaries of any unionized full-time, non-tenure track faculty in the country: starting in September, 95% of us will make over $100,000, and none of us will make less than $91,000. Everyone in our union will get a minimum raise of $14,000 by the start of the next academic year.
Absolutely thrilled for NYU Contract Faculty United @uaw.org, which has reached an incredible tentative agreement after negotiating for over a year. Teachers are suspending the strike and returning to the classroom this morning!

I have a philosophy joke but no one ever gets it.
Here is my best Habermas story.
I am grad student waiting in LONG line for Habermas talk. There is a tall man waiting in front of me. Line moves so we are eventually visible to organizers, a woman looks over & makes horrified face. Runs out: "Prof Habermas! You don't have to wait in line!"
When a federal judge (finally) put ICE officers under oath, they admitted that they are given daily detention quotas and rely heavily on a Palantir-supplied AI tool to select targets, without warrants and without enough evidence to obtain one. They simply go into neighborhoods and round people up.
Do you think Kobe would have held off 83 if he was in Bam's place? Please. Just silly.
