This tactic has been used for years to detain so-called "troubled teens" and send them to Christian boarding schools in red states. Where they're beaten and often sexually assaulted. We've been ignoring that one for two generations.

The bigger question: How can we defend democracy when Americans clearly don't care?

Right-wing Christians beating children goes back further than that, but the Republicans have tried to cover it up. Notice the ongoing struggle in Missouri (dominated by starkly fascist right-wing Christians) to get any Republican authority to do ANYTHING about their Christian boarding schools.

That's an increasingly attractive option.

Except the Republicans will scream that their audits would be phony to cover up Democratic corruption.
