Midway through my Good Boy & Friday the 13th (1980) double feature at the theater.

Good Boy was a lot of fun and was followed by an enjoyable "making of" featurette.

I was 9 when Ft13 dropped, so didn't catch it in the theater the first time round. Going to make that right in a few minutes.

Horror can be cathartic. Horror can be subversive. It can help us understand the human experience. It can help us shine a light on beliefs and norms and systems that cause people pain. It can help us find strength. It can expand our consciousness. Horror can be so many things.

The unboxing of....WHY I LOVE HORROR: ESSAY ON HORROR LITERATURE by me. Coming from @sagapressbooks.bsky.social 9/23/25.

The tables were turned for this one because usually I am the person posting other people's books arriving at my house.

This book is a work of art. Brian Keene and Christopher Golden have created something magical. Thank you to them, Ed Schlesinger, and (of course) Stephen King for letting us run wild in the extraordinary universe of THE STAND.

Out of the blue thought of the story "The Tunnel Ahead" by Alice Glaser. I'm sure it's been decades since I read it, but it's the kind of story that sticks with you.

I'm expecting publisher files today for a proof of a nonfiction work on horror. I've been looking forward to this one for months! (Freelancing can be tough, so pausing for these moments of joy goes a long way.)

I re-upped my @chicagomanual.bsky.social online subscription for the new three-year option, with added savings from the @efafreelancers.bsky.social member discount.

I can't imagine not using CMOS, but there will be egg on my face if the thinner NYMOS takes over.
