Congrats!
Glanced at my thesis for the first time since submitting it ~2 months ago. *Immediately* found a typo (actually, a missing word...). 🤦♂️
Getting a PhD and then working outside academia is dope. My advisees who’ve done that are more or less uniformly happy and feel that they’re using the skills they trained on. (I talked to one today who just landed a great gig). Just wanted to convey that to anyone it might benefit.
page in Gurmukhi script
One of the challenges of my job is occasionally having to catalogue things I can't read and have no info on! Here we have a manuscript in Gurmukhi script - which I'm guessing is Sikh in content, but getting beyond that is today's task! (So if anyone has any ideas...)
I can only recommend working with Tatjana, except that she regularly beats me in board games so that's a minus I guess?
Jk, come work at RUB in an absolutely supportive and thriving environment!
And she does dance studies 💃
Sounds like maybe something @sararribas.bsky.social could help out with?
Bleak! 😩
Reminder: Everyone is welcome to a seminar on Computational Methods & Intellectual History at Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies (Fabianinkatu 24 A, 3rd floor) this Thursday 23 April at 16:15-19:00 (no online option). Background paper: www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/doi/epub/10.... (ch 12)
I was just thinking about you yesterday and looking up information about you and your/your lab's projects. Some really exciting stuff. Are you open to me sending an email in the next few days (or is there too much going on?)?
That's such wonderful news! Congratulations. I used to work at the Göttingen Academy. Wonderful place and wonderful people.

“I hope that our research encourages academics to build their own models and to collaborate more with humanists and artists. Humanistic insights should be at the forefront of AI development,” Nina said.

What a testimony to you!
I‘m an unashamed em-dasher.
Yes I saw this and immediately wanted to write you. Congrats! 🥳
Congrats! That’s fantastic news 👏👏👏
Was für ein spannendes Thema! 🤩
For the Monday crowd: please circulate this widely.
It may be hard to find the perfect candidate (an experienced data engineer/architect generalist with an interest in cultural heritage willing to take a state salary), but it's a great group/mission/city and we know the right person is out there.
Depends on the time! 😅
How wonderful!
Looks remarkably like a Brompton
😳
That makes is *slightly* less exciting, but I forgive you
Some colleagues have asked me about Schmidt Science's Humanities AI grant program, which has given significant funding to humanities researchers. They also have an open call for grant apps right now. This is a great funding opp for humanists; some thoughts: www.schmidtsciences.org/humanities-a...
The Prize Papers project is amazing. Three (3!) great #DigitalHumanities related PhD opportunities.
So much truth in this!
