Scared to start a new sketchbook? Tell your frontal lobe to take a break and just make a mark! I focused entirely on the enjoyment of putting pen to paper, the feeling of the ink flowing over the surface, the joy of accidental marks when the wind blew the page. It was delicious.

A photo I took while out on a walk of a little red-browed finch poised on a stalk of dry grass, ready to take off in search of more grass seeds
A quick composition sketch to figure out what goes where. I emphasized the vertical lines of the grass to contrast against the horizontal line of of the finch. I had the finch face towards the centre of the composition to keep the viewer's eye within the painting (hopefully)
