If you love speculative fiction, then you owe a huge debt to @strangehorizons.bsky.social -- a magazine that successfully brought SFF short fiction online and expanded our ideas of what genre can do. It launched my career and many others. And it's still amazing.

Just read Mathematics for Ladies by @jessyrandall.bsky.social — a brilliant collection of poems on women in science.
AIP has oral histories with several of the women featured in the poems. Thread incoming with links.

Agree -- I literally keep a handwritten list in a notebook to remember which service has which shows and which days they come out etc.!

Oh my LORD, I am only 12% through this so far and I officially want EVERYONE to read this poetry collection. I think it might be my favourite 2025 poetry read.
The prose is so precise and well researched. There's... almost nothing else out there like this. Please add this to your TBRs!

Text reads: Trota of Salerno (ca. 11th-12th century) I’m glad labour is easier now, and more mothers survive. In my time, bodies were different. We inhabited them only briefly. What mattered was the eternal soul.
How do you first establish how devastating the death toll on childbirth was, then have it echo through in the minds and work of too damn many women who married and gave birth thereafter?
Ouch! (but in the good way)

There are only 6 hours left in 2024 (in my time zone) and I *know* some of you are still trying to meet annual targets around making enough submissions. You have a few more hours to send poems to Snakeskin! In the body of an email! To @jessyrandall.bsky.social
Don't forget: it's almost time to stop writing 2024 on forms and instead drawing a picture of a skull with blood pouring from its eye sockets
It requires a friend with a button maker
Making magnets for the new book! @goldsf.bsky.social
