RIP Béla Tarr (1955–2026). I‘ll never forget the eye of the whale in “Werckmeister harmóniák”.
My favorite Blu-Ray releases of 2025: Eustache, Stroheim, Fulci, Epstein, Friedkin, Sirk …
I’m watching the last films of the year.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Filming on 16mm in Saxon Switzerland.
My award-winning 16mm short film is now available for everyone to watch for free. Enjoy! vimeo.com/852052138
Today, I finally managed to film the blood moon until it turned back into a full moon. The scenes will be part of my next film. I used the Schneider-Keuznach 240mm for the first time, a wonderfully reliable lens. And now it’s time for hand processing!
I’m preparing my new film “Do You Know the Night”, inspired by a haunting poem by German writer Karl May. The experimental film will be shot from autumn through spring in Waldheim and the Ore Mountains — on 16mm Kodak Double-X, the same raw, textured stock Robert Eggers used for “The Lighthouse“.
Coming soon: short film programme BEST OF "ANDERSARTIG", including two of my films, Shot on 8 and 16mm film. I will be present.

I've now seen the trailer and poster for Chistopher Nolan's “Odyssey” and can't stop thinking about Fritz Lang, who also films the “Odyssey” in Godard's film “Contempt”.

Ed Chigliak: “Pretty big line out there. I guess 'Forrest Gump' really is more popular than 'Nosferatu'. […] I bet you if Tom Hanks had played 'Nosteratu', eighty domestic, easy.”

My new article about Claude Chabrol's film LA RUPTURE in the German print film magazine “70 Millimeter”.

“Keep your eye on the doughnut, not on the hole.” – David Lynch
RIP David Lynch (1946–2025): He was one of the main reasons why I started making movies. After his “Inland Empire”, nothing was the same for me. I will miss his art. He has now entered the Red Room. Thank you!
Jean Eustache's THE MOTHER AND THE WHORE was described by Cahiers du cinéma as the best film of the 1970s and is now on Blu-Ray from Criterion. To finally be able to see Eustache's masterpiece is a revelation for me: Leaud in his own free-spirited world, where, in my opinion, he is at his best.
Studiocanal's Blu-ray release of ten of Alfred Hitchcock's early films with new restorations and scores is a masterstroke: I have never seen his early silent and sound films in such good quality. A great pleasure! @studiocanal.com @plaion.bsky.social
“The Exterminating Angel”: Still my favourite film by Luis Buñuel, now on Blu-Ray by Radiance Films for the first time. 👋 @filmsradiance.bsky.social

Robert Eggers' dark psychosexual gothic tragedy NOSFERATU is so captivatingly beautiful that I want to watch the movie again right away.
THE SWEETHEART'S PRESENT: A short vampire film that I made for German designer Marcel Kabisch in 2012.

“Sigh, rushes, sigh”: In his tale of passionate love and heartbreaking grief, Swedish poet Gustaf Fröding (1860–1911) explains the drowning of the beautiful Ingalill.
