I wish they'd given at least three more minutes to the dream scene in this episode. It's one of the most important moments for HSM. Her choosing life and love despite the heartache, instead of death.

The fact that Fang Xianye chose not to abandon Duan Xu by protecting him from the court's punishment but in doing so he actually did have to abandon him when he sacrificed his life. 😭

I feel like she isn't just speaking comforting words to Duan Xu, she's also speaking to herself. Her acknowledging her own fear of losing Duan Xu and beginning to accept in that moment to choose a life with him despite the eventual grief and loneliness.

So many thoughts about this scene. He Simu knowing the pain he feels and knowing the exact comforting words he needs because she's experienced so much grief herself. "Just remember him" is exactly what to say to DX who just wants to be remembered too 😭.

Immortalis: Ngl, I'm only curious about it for the three leads and whatever dynamic they end up having. Hopefully the story will actually be good too.

Shadows of Desire: Like both actors, pretty cinematography, lots of angst!! Possibly three interesting couples??
Last thing, the OST!! So many memorable songs. I was really impressed with how effectively they used the instrumental background music.
Despite my disappointment with some things, I'm so glad I watched this one. Favorite of the year. Although, it doesn't have much competition so far.
Both dramas have given me two of my favorite FLs of all time and three of my favorite relationships of all time, so this director has got to be doing some things right. There's absolutely nothing about her next drama that looks interesting to me, but I'll for sure be checking it out because of her.
I know some people wish a certain other director had done this drama (personally I'm glad he didn't). I thought Zoe Qin did a beautiful job with LBTG. I've seen two of her dramas (LYF & LBTG) & she seems to specialize in role reversal, emotionally guarded FL and devoted ML dynamics.

They don't ruin the drama, they're far from the worst endings I've seen, I just think that the novel ending is more meaningful and honors the characters better.

I've yet to read the novel, but I did know of the ending before watching the drama and was attached to that version, so the two drama endings were disappointing, to me.
I assume that censorship kept the writers from showing too much of his past 🫤, but I devoured every crumb of information we got about his character. CFY did an amazing job portraying both an unhinged general & a devoted lover. Episode 8 was amazing! He also deserved a better ending in my opinion.
Duan Xu was great as well. I loved that his devotion wasn't just for romance's sake but also a window into how he dealt with all the trauma he'd experienced. His devotion was as equally unhealthy as it was heartwarming, which made it so interesting to me.
all perfect. Her character deserved a less rushed last few episodes (and different ending) and for Yan Ke to be thrown into the sun rather than whatever the heck their storyline was, but other than those things, I loved the writing for her character.

Finished it. Definitely not a perfect drama but I LOVED the two main characters and their romance so much. He Simu is easily one of my favorite characters in any drama. I loved how her vulnerability, fears, and imperfections were just as important to her characterization

I’ll have to post something with more detail once the episodes are released to everyone but omg!! the tears of joy I literally cried while watching the sense exchange in THAT SCENE, iykwim. One of the most beautiful moments in anything I’ve watched.
