This is a Tim Bagley appreciation post. He was transcendently lovely on SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE in its final seasons, and he's doing subtly complex work on third season of THE COMEBACK streaming right now. 🫡

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

It’s hard not to see Vance’s criticism of the Pope’s theological bona fides as just silly hubris.

But I also see it as a stress test of sorts — can they manipulate sentiment against a pontiff. Not for Trump’s interests. More likely for Thiel’s.

"The Pope is incorrect on matters of theology" is excommunication time.

Friends, I've talked about it before and I will again. The PBS app is fantastic, and for a $5 a month donation, you can get allllllll of the content. Way cheaper than any streaming and it's a good cause.

For decades, birthday party clowns folded balloons and played games. John Wayne Gacy is taking a different approach.

“I thought it was me as a doctor” is such a childish lie that the media’s refusal to call it that and drive in circles to say “trump denied it was an image of jesus and said he thought it was a doctor” is an implicit admission that they will never truthfully report on trump for the rest of his life

I just got another book club email, where someone claims they have hundreds of members who would love to discuss my book, which they just came across, despite it being obscure and published 17 years ago. I’m guessing at some point they ask you to pay for this non-existent honor. Jerks.

Revealing that *this* is what it took to prompt pushback from the Christian Right. Not all the sexual assaults. Not all the murders and violent attacks. Not all the cruelty to the poor.

The Pope is weak on crime.

The Dalai Lama is soft on budget deficits.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe doesn’t have a comprehensive plan for highway maintenance.

So the official stance of the US Military is to board and seize commercial boats in international waters. My brother that's just called piracy??

They brought back measles and now we're bringing back pirates, we're really speedrunning ourselves back to a Victorian romance novel

Opinion | Beware conservatives promoting “intellectual freedom” Victor Ray: This conservative lie about schools like mine is furthering authoritarianism

Making tenure count, for MSNOW I wrote about my employer, The University of Iowa, creating a center for intellectual freedom. It's a reactionary project built on decades of conservative propaganda about higher ed.

Every single one of the astronauts who went to the moon and back on Artemis II was educated at a public school.

Thinking of the teachers who poured into Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen tonight. You helped send a kid to the moon!

Humanity did that. Science did that. Publicly-funded research did that. Excellent universities did that. Diversity did that. International cooperation did that.

Artemis II is a perfect example of what we can do at our best.
