My latest @bmj.com on why an experienced workforce is necessary for safety and productivity www.bmj.com/content/387/...
Every. Single. Word. Of. This.
From Prof. @alisonleary1.bsky.social. Worth a read for all those wondering why retention of NHS staff and therefore their proficiency is so important in the pursuit of productivity and safety.
Not long now critical care pnas - great programme with great speakers - nearly 400 bookings now ! Supporting our staff for them to thrive at work is vital

Sometimes, you have to take a step back and look at the journey you've been on.
Week to go until we see Paul McCartney live I always promised my son I would take him to see a Beatle and if oasis reformed we would go and see them too - about make good with these promises within the next year - love how my boy is a music geek just like his mum #musicgeek
This is the Canadian #nursing retention toolkit. Am finding governments are starting to really see the value of retention
An experienced skilled workforce is essential for productivity as well as safe & effective care www.canada.ca/en/health-ca...
Doing some work around staff support- horizontal violence should not be happening but sadly it does . If we are to be recognised as a highly skilled patient safety centric profession we are ,we should be supporting one another & leaders need to ensure staff support is at the very heart of nursing

Some of the recommendations: A suitably educated & trained workforce.
Safety critical nurse ratio’s enshrined in law.
Full & proper engagement with the nursing profession. Professional representation equivalent to medical representation. @thercn.bsky.social
Researchers found that to address the epidemic of mental ill health among HCPs, workers needed:
Targeted MH interventions
Hot food
Rest areas/lockers
Free parking
Essentially staff just need to be valued & treated like human beings.
Rocket science it is not.

Forgetting is a curse & a necessity. We want to move on but must at the same time remember the events of the pandemic accurately, to learn the right lessons & better prepare for whatever the future holds. My thanks to the @covidinquiryuk team for this work. youtu.be/4wSYxatO2cU?...

Introverts lead with actions and they often speak louder than words #iintrovertedleaders
I agree effective supervision really helps but the people who deliver supervision PNAs for example should get time within their substantive roles to undertake this with staff - not do it in thier own time or annual leave sadly many pnas still do not the time /neither do they get supervision
editorial from @bmj.com and paper: Poor staff retention is associated with higher patient mortality. Have said it before & I’ll say it again. If you don’t care for the carers, they cannot care for their patients.

As leaders, we cannot be silos. Our role is to enable the collaboration/connections that mean our teams can play to their specialist strengths but operate as part of a bigger collective whole. @jillgeisler.bsky.social suggests 8 actions for leaders: hfma.org/leadership/l.... Graphic: Julie Woodard

Just over 2 weeks to go before the 2nd national critical care professional nurse advocate webinar - fab speakers and absolutely free to book on www.baccn.org/meeting-book...
@cc3n @baccn @karingerber.bsky.social
"Lower turnover rates for nurses and senior doctors at hospital level were associated with better health outcomes for patients with emergency hospital admissions."
The question for me is why we have to keep spelling this out.

Hello!
We're a non-profit (CIC) est in 2020 to provide free & confidential counselling & psychological support to NHS & frontline workers.
We're proud of having supported 1M people since we started, and thousands every week.
Our ad hits hard, but it's important

The resilience hubs were amazing and provided a lifeline during Covid - to get rid of them was a huge loss - wellbeing needs to be a priority
Not enough people are talking about how the previous govt ditched wellbeing hubs set up for staff during covid, in the name of cutbacks
Unsurprisingly MH related absences are sky high, perpetuating the cycle.
NHS staff are for life, not just for pandemics
