3d model of the head of a character in Blender, with 6 separated cut-out meshes to the side that explores different styles of eyes
Eyes, eyes, eyes...
Don't look too closely; still very much at the "Make it exist" part of the character process.

Based on a ton of research, mesh eyes + mesh outlines will be our way to go in order to accommodate the expressions etc I have in mind, plus the whole "should ideally, eventually, possibly, work for VR one day".
Right now there's just a need to nail the STYLE of eye for the first few chars.

Having a great time though. It's so much fun to finally dig deep into this stuff.
Trusting the process, and excited to show what'll come out at the other end.

Not only having choice paralysis for which style of eye to go for, but once I'm happy I then also need to setup a lot more to even get close to enable the expressiveness of anime characters.
Already knew this would be a lot, and it's planned for, but being here in the moment is still overwhelming π

Planning ahead the road to proper announcement of the Vending Machine game, and we've made a schedule to be able to fill in where we're otherwise busy.
Right now it has the most important stuff, like birthdays and..

How Much an Indie Game Costs to Make
YouTube video by Moo Yu
I love sharing numbers so here's a video of how much we spent to make Mythmatch.
I break it down by time, discipline, and funding source.

A small plugin that was made using it was accidentally added to the project a few weeks back. Caught it within a few days, after randomly deciding to look it up further, and it was scrubbed out of the project later that same day.

Feels like a good a time as any to make it crystal clear that the Vending Machine game won't have any Gen A I associated with it.

More progress on the Vending Machine game tonight.
Continuing on with setting base characters up (nothing fun to see yet though), and we're also doing some rough planning with actual dates in mind, in order to prepare for an eventual proper announcement! (which is still at least a few months out!)

Resharing, because other devs keep saying that they find this useful once they hear about it.
Here's sort of what our narrative sketching page looks like for the vending machine game, for reference. (old screenshot, but you get the gist of it)

I would have loved to post more progress on the Vending Machine game, but I've been too deep in the hole with gaming lately.
~130h each on both Pokopia and Crimson Desert has eaten up all my free time outside of consultant work. π
It's nice to be able to go in deep, but need to shift focus soon π

Because it maybe would've been needed for a thing (turns out it wasn't), I ordered a "Certificate of Good Standing" for the company, and it arrived late this week.
Though I don't need to use it, it is kinda nice having a physical document with official gov seal saying that Decaying Games is legit.

Finally attempting to see what tags we'll eventually be able to use for the game, and think that a Top 5 is forming.
Atmospheric
Shop Keeper
Anime
Simulation
Visual Novel
Exact list will surely change over time, but right now those seem like the best matches of the available choices.

"Need"?
Planning for 6, prepared for 5, and can find ways to survive with 4.
I have the exp and tools to make this work, but the industry is what it is at the moment, and anything can happen between now and when the game ships.

Listening to the Va11-Hall-A OST while 3d modeling, and caught myself thinking that it feels like I'm back at my student days.
Then I realized it's probably because that's when I last was doing proper 3d modelling π

It's still going to be A While until I have something to share on there, but Decaying Games is now officially a Steamworks partner!
Been interacting with it for several projects in the past of course, but this is the first time I get to register onto it myself!

Still of Doctor Strange in Marvel's Avengers movie saying "We're in the endgame now."
Beat the main story of Pokopia earlier tonight, and been messing around with the endgame at bit.
Not putting this down anytime soon, I think.

Also random shoutout to them actually pointing out which head says what for pokemon with several heads/bodies.
It's a small thing, but the whole multiple-in-one concept is brushed over in most pokemon games (apart from visuals); glad to see that it's actually being acknowledged at all for once. π
