It has triggered some of the deadliest fighting in recent months, according to Sudan War Monitor’s geolocated analysis. SAF and allied former Darfur rebel Joint Forces advanced from El-Obeid southward through Kazgil and Hamadi toward the RSF stronghold of El-Debeibat before apparently withdrawing. Control of Hamadi remained unconfirmed as of Sunday. A senior Joint Force commander, Major-General Hussein Abdulrahman, was killed in the fighting, a significant loss that may have contributed to the retreat, according to the report. All three sides – the SAF, the Joint Force, and the RSF – claimed victory. The RSF also claimed over 500 enemy fighters killed and 85 vehicles seized. Repeated SAF attempts to reopen the El-Obeid–Dilling road have failed, with RSF ambushes, mines, and entrenched positions, particularly around El-Debeibat, preventing any sustained advance.
