The UK government has been utterly dishonest about its part in this hideous war. It has allowed the US to use British airbases (and Prestwick airport!) for the transit of US warplanes to the Middle East. Whatever Keir Starmer is saying now the UK has been and continues to be a material accessory to the assault on Iran, with all the resulting death, mutilation, destruction and widening chaos.

As the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki looms and the world shuffles carelessly towards nuclear catastrophe, there’s this: US Strategic Bombing Survey July 1946: “Japan would have surrendered even if atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs did not defeat Japan, nor by the testimony of the enemy leaders who ended the war did they persuade Japan to accept unconditional surrender.”

Last week, I was grateful to discuss how we build a better, more inclusive & peaceful world: in the Scottish Parliament, with @caatuk.bsky.social, & at Aberdeen Uni.
Taxpayers' money should not fund genocide, survivors of abuse deserve justice, immigration is good, & equality benefits everyone!

Tel Aviv won't sign up to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty because that would mean being open to inspection by the IAEA. a smelly dodge supported by US, UK (of course) and the increasingly warlike EU.
