That hauntingly beautiful song towards the end of Project Hail Mary? Erima Maewa Kaihau is who you have to thank.
Welcome back to the Artemis II crew :) Such a huge relief watching them arrive safely!

For context this bit took about 40 min but that includes some dilly dallying (an important part of the process)
Stripey red tulip on flat grass painting (close up of a bigger painting)
Hm I have painted a thing which unfortunately looks good which means I guess I am painting 40 more flowers at this level of detail lol. Directly inspired by the de Heem painting. Hopefully I get faster at some point. I’m already about 31 hours into this painting 😸
"Planet Earth: You Are A Crew" - Christina Koch
Highly recommend checking out Koch's part of this, as it is *extremely good*.
Her discussion is not US-focused; it's globally focused. Really like it.
The specific part I am talking about starts at timestamp: 56:19 and runs for approx. 3 mins.
@sailorhg.com sorry if you already saw this, but thought you might know somebody

A 1200+ year climate record is at risk. Do you know know anyone in Japan who could help? See below.
Remember that guy a few months ago who tried to use chatgpt to tell if it was day outside, and racked up an enormous bill because it was polling the server like every 30 seconds to see if it was day yet

Anyway it’s a new day. Let’s make more art and post more art. 🌱
Former NASA climate scientist, now Senior Scientist at Project Drawdown, Dr. Kate Marvel, has a fantastic piece in the New York Times today.
This is a must-read if you care about science, the planet, and the future.

Today is a good day to remember that Carl Sagan was as outspoken about the dangers of war and nuclear weapons as he was an advocate of space exploration.
New over here so introducing myself with some commentary on Artemis II!
View of the spacecraft (bright, on the left), a dark thin crescent of Moon, and a very small, bright thin crescent of Earth next to it
"Orion, the Moon, and the Earth. EVERYONE, in that picture" - #Artemis II Mission Control.
Reid Wiseman on #Artemis II: "We have Earth out window 4 and Moon out window 3... the Moon is about 3-4 times the size of the Earth and it is almost full, and the Earth is just a small crescent out there... it's magnificent... such a majestic view out here"
Mission Control: "Amaze, amaze, amaze!"
That's so adorable! I did wonder when I moved it the other day how old they are because the plastic is starting to sadly get degraded/going sticky. but it is so cute
Will you be up at 3 for the start of coverage? I'm considering it 🤔
Aussie (AEST) / NZ (NZST) pals, here are some time conversions* for tomorrow:
4:45am / 6:45am - Lunar flyby begins
8:00am / 10:00am - Good start time
9:02am / 11:02am - #ArtemisII closest lunar approach
9:07am / 11:07am - Orion at max distance
* double check as I somehow always mess this up lol
Christina Koch peers out of one of the Orion spacecraft's main cabin windows, looking back at Earth. Australia and NZ are directly visible on the planet.

Oh, and by the way .... there is something extra neat about these two lovely images of Christina Koch and Reid Wiseman staring out the #ArteisII window back at Earth, for folks in our neck of the woods.
Their location at this time is right above Australia, and you can also see New Zealand!

Yes, it’s plastic! 8 cm sounds right but have to measure it. That so random haha!
