Took me to the SUVSWD as expected
"On those rare occasions when we strike down one of your statutes as unconstitutional, we carefully and dispassionately explain why. You will never read an opinion where we challenge your integrity or good faith. I ask that you pay us the same courtesy in challenging our decisions." #utpol #Utah
"I’m afraid judicial activism has come to mean 'a decision I disagree with.'" Chief Justice Durrant says. "We apply a presumption of good faith to the work you do. I hope you will accord us that same presumption."
He gets a polite standing ovation. #utpol #Utah
Oathbreaker!
BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick hasn't been definitive on much. But he is sure of one thing: Carsen Ryan is going to get a lot of run at TE this fall.
"He's an every-down player ... He can play every down, run or pass, and do a lot of things for us."
Group photo of the Utah Teacher Fellows Cohort 5. Utah Teacher Fellows is a teacher leadership program meant to help educators strengthen their voices in critical conversations around the profession.
I am so lucky I get join the Utah Teacher Fellows in a 2 year cohort!
As part of this cohort, I’ll be able to raise and amplify my voice for public education!
I don’t know how much I’ll use this account but I’d love to see #EduSky🍎 and #iteachsocialstudies 🗺️ grow in Utah. We’ll see.
Nice! Who are we canvassing for today?
Stretch of 6 lane interstate out a train window. Only two cars are in the full 6 lanes headed south.
BuT wHeNeVeR I sEe ThE bUs It’S aLwAyS eMpTy! 🤪🤦🏼♂️
Two cars in 6 lanes for almost 2 or 3 miles! Count ‘em: Two! And there are at least 20 of us on just my top floor of FrontRunner! Imagine what it could be with double tracking? Or extended service?!? We don’t need more lanes we need better transit!
Great article. I hope my faith can live up to its moderate portrayal here. I think many of us feel like the church’s call to be peacemakers should be more faithfully lived. But Lee is a black eye to the church & Utah, and our own supermajority is right behind him. 🙄

Black T-shirt with the poem by Martin Niemöller bordered by barbed wire. The poem reads: “First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I am not a Jew. Then they came for me — And there was no one left to speak for me.”
I’m not going to make it out much tomorrow but today I have errands and time in public so I thought it was time for this Social Studies shirt to come out.
Local Utah/San Francisco connection with this movie. Part of the iconic spaghetti scene was animated by Willie Ito an internee at the Topaz Japanese Internment Camp here in Utah. I show my students an interview with Willie when we discuss internment. www.waltdisney.org/blog/finding...
Just finished a kettlebell workout at my lowest home weight but still back to home weight!
It was the last day of school today. I think I was home shortly after my students. I ate lunch with my family, and I am now puttering around the garage ready to fix and maintain a bike or two. Life is so good! Happy summer!! #TeacherLife
I have no idea what he was saying at all. Nothing connected. Nothing made sense.

Yet these were the actual two candidates I had to choose from. I’ll be honest part of me wanted to see Lyman win and drive the party off the cliff. But maybe now I’ll get to key playing the game and effecting change where I can 🤷🏼♂️
Yeah… for us crazy moderates still here in Utah Axson isn’t our champion he may not even be our friend but maybe there’s hope we take the party back 🤷🏼♂️
I feel validated for showing up. The impression I get after this meeting, and these results, is that there are two distinct parties in the Utah GOP and while us crazy moderates don’t love Axson in my opinion sanity took the day. #UTpol
Ironically that was part of his speech “Maybe you hate me because I don’t hate enough”
This one was a huge head scratcher for me. It feels so slimy and all about power now and the GOP isn’t even trying to hide it anymore.
I hate this train of thought but that’s the vibes I got. 😭
I sat in that room and listened to Phil Lyman talk about Jesus, 1776, and the Salem witch trials (unclear if he supported them or not). He made no points, no two ideas connected in the least. Like, if he wasn’t making a bid for power I’d be concerned for his welfare. #UTpol
The Utah GOP party platform can now be changed at this organizing convention. Where there’s a whopping 2,630 of us here. 🤔 #UTpol
But hey I showed up today in part to get rid of that amendment and it was taken off the agenda by dubious majority by leadership. What is even happening!?! #UTpol
Here at the GOP organizing convention and the proposed party amendment to kick signature gathering candidates out of the party was pulled by the sponsor. He vaguely talked about “better options coming and new things that have come to light” I’m almost more scared with his vague language. #UTpol
8yo with Cosmo the byu mascot in a baseball uniform
Me and my boy at Miller park BYU’s baseball stadium
My wife thought I was crazy when I said I wanted to take our newly 5yo to a baseball game for his birthday. Now he’s turning 8 and the birthday baseball game is a tradition! #BYU #GoCougs
Slide from a presentation with the quote: “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still, I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something I can do” -Edward Everett Hale
I was shown this quote in a conference on grading practices yesterday. But it made me think more about this Saturday and my adventure giving up a whole day to walk into the heart of crazy. The GOP state organizing convention. Wish me luck and stay tuned for skeets from insanity. #utpol
Andor. That’s the post. Just wow.
