I'd like to introduce you all to a personal project I've been working on recently. It's called Heimdall, and it's an MRMS + ProbSevere situational awareness monitor for CONUS scale severe weather. It's got roaming, alerts, archive mode, and is fully client side.

Super interesting - thanks for sharing this! Sorry if I missed something obvious, but what's the easiest way to pull number of counties/zones under a given watch/warning?

15 Feb 2021 WaWa Map

My database indicates that tomorrow is marginally behind 15 Feb 2021 as having the most number of counties/zones simultaneously under a Winter Storm Warning since at least 2008. Currently at 998 vs 1043 during 2021. Historical NWS WaWa Maps are here: mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/timemachine/...

Tail Doppler Radar (TDR) data from the current recon mission into Melissa shows that the vortex is vertically stacked up to 15 km w/ the upshear/NW quad being the strongest.

This is about as favorable of a vortex structure as you’ll see for rapid intensification

Definitely agree with this. I've found that with ample context, there's not much it hasn't been able to tackle with my work. Also, the time saved writing documentation is 🤌✨ However... There _are_ still absolutely times it loses its mind spectacularly 😅 (using claude-sonnet [reasoning] primarily)

Ever seen a “volnado” before?

Check out this video from USGS of a whirlwind kicking up loose ash deposits along the active fountain and flow within the Halemaʻumaʻu crater of Kilauea!

According to USGS, these whirlwinds have been documented during several eruptive episodes downwind of the eruption
