Robbie: Do you regret what you said about Norfolk farmers?
Chris: I regret saying they put infected spinal cords in baps. Because they would fit better in baguettes. #BBC606
Chris Sutton has now embraced Alan Partridge so much he has just slagged off Norfolk farmers on the radio
Totally sold on the back story, I've got a new favourite: Antoni "Vanishing Point" Kowalski #Snooker
Yes, this is exactly what I meant! What I absolutely didn't mean was "I respect Peter Mandelson"
He wouldn't have gone for the Chancellor role if he didn't have the respect of enough of the establishment. Same goes for the Ambassador role. I'm not saying he deserved that respect, I'm just pointing out that he had it!
All I'm saying is that this was the narrative that the papers pushed at the time. Not that the story was true, nor that everyone believed that story.
Thank you. I can't be popesplaining because Vance isn't the pope. It's like when you've stood between two Carolines and people tell you you're in a Caroline sandwich.
There's loads of results emerging from our SALIENT project, and you can get the latest from the new project website. There's posters on results from each of the ten trials - all looking at interventions to promote healthy sustainable diets.
Really proud of this work by @elisabecker.bsky.social from our SALIENT project! An experiment in work canteens where we swapped out one meat option for one vegetarian option

To be clear on my position, I don't think he was respectable and didn't think it at the time! But the media and much of the centre left clearly did
Yeah, I don't think there is a good choice for Labour, which is why they have stuck with Starmer till now. I wouldn't mind Ed Miliband, but he would be wildly attacked in the press and is generally seen as an election loser.
I’m shocked that journalists aren’t posting their links to the articles they published at the time about his appointment and how risky it was.
Tricky - I think it is a sign of the mismanagement of the Labour Party under Starmer that only two years into Gov and they already look like the choice of viable candidates is slim. Personally, I would go for Angela Rayner.
I am in 100% agreement with you. The original post is a convenient way for media class to say "nothing to do with me, guv, everyone went a bit mad there".
Mandy was effectively the Gov pick for Oxford chancellor and was totally rejected. Normal people could see he was a terrible candidate.
That is a VERY hindsight view. When he was appointed he was seen as someone with loads of experience and just the sort of person that can do deals with Trump (i.e. corrupt).
Just before he was appointed he ran to be Chancellor of Oxford. He was respectable. He shouldn't have been, but he was.
"And they realised they were no longer little disciples. They were little apostles"
Never have I more wanted to give two likes.

I'm always frustrated when parking prices are less than twice the cost of bus travel, so bus is only incentivised for lone travellers. I just never thought that would be the case when the parking space costs £129.
And there's nothing new about price caps on food items. Nixon introduced price caps on meat in the 1970s.
Price caps on energy were considered politically unpalatable until they were introduced and now have broad support across the political spectrum. Extending that principle to other essentials - like healthy food - was always likely.
It was only a matter of time before politicians started suggesting price caps on essential food items. @johnswinney.bsky.social - how about focussing on price caps for healthy and essential options? www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

The framing of "warfare versus welfare" like there is no other political choice is hilarious and not hilarious
If a meeting starts at 12 and lunch is served, can I turn up at 12.30?
We have been so skewed to the right the concept of raising taxes instead of cutting services is presented with ridicule
Pure example of how messed up political discourse is in UK.
Nick Robinson on Today programme to @ross-greer.bsky.social: "You're the only party in Scotland who wants to raise taxes. Aren't you ignoring the elephant in the room, which is the £5Bn black hole in the budget?"
As in Gaza, now in Lebanon.
