Members of YDM spent the last few days learning, growing, and discussing how to lift up our communities — it’s safe to say Michigan was well represented at #YDAPhilly!
Thank you Governor Whitmer for your support of our state’s delegation and everyone attending #YDAPhilly!
Congratulations Joshua on your election this week at #YDAPhilly!
Today was a session day BUT Michigan Republicans didn’t show up to work.
There were no votes in the State House and no budget negotiations happening.
Wya, MAGA? #mipol
Our democracy only works when people can participate freely and safely. No matter your party or ideology, violence is never the answer.
We are alarmed by reports that the 19-year-old suspect intended to “send a message against the corruption.” While everyone has the right to express frustration or dissent, resorting to violence to make a political point is unacceptable.
Young Democrats of Michigan strongly condemns the attempted firebombing of the Dickinson County Republican Committee office in Iron Mountain.
We are grateful no one was harmed in this incident. Political violence, regardless of its source or motivation, has no place in our democracy.
Michigan House Republicans are skipping work AGAIN and leaving all of us wondering when a budget will be passed..
Has anyone seen Speaker Hall?
It’s been pretty quiet in Lansing since the July 1st deadline to pass a state budget was missed. The delay affects local governments, schools, and other entities that rely on state funding to plan their budgets. Stop the games, Matt!
🚨 If the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” passes, 453,101 Michiganders will lose their healthcare.
We have to stop this bill.
Call Congress at (202) 224-3121.
#Juneteenth is not just a holiday. It’s a celebration of resilience. A call to remembrance. And a reminder that the fight for justice continues.
Political disagreement must never turn into political violence — it is on all of us to ensure it does not.
We are deeply alarmed by reports that members of Michigan’s congressional delegation and other elected officials were named in notes left by the suspect. Public servants must be able to do their jobs free from the threat of violence.
YDM stands with our friends in Minnesota and all affected by the horrific, politically motivated assassinations of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. We also send our support to State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, as they recover from their injuries.
Young Democrats of Michigan stands in solidarity with Senator Padilla, Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass, and with every person who speaks up in the face of this autocracy. We will continue organizing, protesting, and standing up — because the future of our democracy hangs in the balance.
This incident comes amid Trump’s unlawful deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles without consent from state officials and his threatening to arrest leaders who challenge him.
When the President uses his office to silence a sitting U.S. Senator simply for asking questions, it sets a precedent that none of us can ignore. This is autocrat behavior from a leader afraid of his fellow citizens.
The attack on Senator Alex Padilla by federal agents is a chilling escalation in Donald Trump’s abuse of power — a direct assault on our democracy and free speech.
