Heres a quick dirty tutorial for immersive fingers using the new VRC RayCast Component. You may have seen this Reddit post www.reddit.com/r/VRchat/com.... Or This Japanese Tutorial xcancel.com/i/status/204.... I will try to explain it in text below.
The totally natural and sane urge to reply to this with a gif of the kitchen scene from Jurassic Park with the two raptors
Thank you for reminding me to check and make sure the textures on my friends' avatars that I was optimizing are not crunched
i should fork it

Man, I found a VHS tape of a play-through of one of the more obscure Sega CD full motion video games called "Make My Video"
The whole game is you edit a music video by hitting the A B or C buttons. It was kinda glorious batshit and the worst game ever on Sega CD....
Really it needs a remaster.
Feeling a little low?

My point is I wanna do these optimizations, but like, how do I do them, y'know? To be honest, I didn't even know depth buffers were a thing before you mentioned them. 😅
You don't have to provide tech support, just offer an example of how to do it.
(2/2) Like, how to model something in Blender where you keep the geometry low and use one texture for everything, or how to set up non-volumetric lighting in Unity (baked and/or Light Volumes) and make it look good, or how to set up screenspace shaders that don't use grab passes or depth buffers.
(1/2) That's fair, I was just thinking that if you made a video going through the process of setting up an optimized world or an optimized avatar, something that I or others could reference, it'd be really helpful. Or at least little bite-size videos focusing on specific optimizations.
If you made some example tutorials and/or could point others to some good existing ones, I think that'd really help. What's some tips and tricks you have? Some common pitfalls and things to avoid? Etc.
I'd love to see you make a YouTube video, Furality panel, etc talking about your workflow!
It's choosing to not use the booth base with 200,000 polygons and instead trying something different. It's changing the design of your world, making some background details into a skybox and not designing around volumetric lights in the first place.
Constraints create the most impressive work.
