No worries - sorry if I sounded a bit patronising with my reply !

Anyway, many thanks - it started out life 18 months ago as a slower scratch port of Nebulus for the Acorn Electron. I suddenly had the notion of throwing the Chuckie Egg sprites at it, and here we are ! 😊

Waterworld, showing its vast expanses of ocean.

Waterworld, showing its vast expanses of ocean.

The second expansion for #BarrenPlanet is #Waterworld. Dapra's neighbouring planet Dalen is over 95% covered with water. And at the bottom of these oceans: crystal nodes! Let battle commence! Get it at cyningstan.itch.io/waterworld. #ibmpc #msdos #cga #Waterworld

Great, glad that's sorted 😊

Like some other games back in the day, the gameplay is limited to the bottom three fifths of the screen to fit everything in memory (including a second screen buffer) !

This has definitely stuck with me for over 40 years.... so much so that I've just released 'Chuckulus' for the Acorn Electron and BBC Micro - a mash up of Chuckie Egg and Nebulus !

Odd - it was tested in Electroniq with Chrome and Edge.... and Firefox at somepoint IIRC.

There's always the BBC Micro version - runs under JSBeeb:

Hi I wrote about the making of classic platformerChuckie Egg and talked to its creator Nigel Alderton. Please give it a read as I want to show there’s an audience for this gaming history stuff πŸ™

Strange.... was it a problem with the 'up' key ? On my laptop at least the ':' key for up (when using control set 1) maps to my '#' key.

Chuckie Egg was designed and coded by a 15-year-old but millions of UK kids played it, including me!

As expected I'm already running out of RAM due to an overload of cute graphics in the Prince of Arabia port to the Acorn Electron. Time to move some stuff to one (or more!) SWRAM banks

Ah, I knew there was another one - I'd forgotten about it !

Cheers, I'll give it a go ! 😎

I know.....

I think KnightLore/Alien 8 and BombJack (if that's ever going to be a thing) will have to use swram, but as I must have said before, I need everything to run on my Vanilla Elk loaded in through the cassette lead ! 😎

Yes, it's been quite a journey - about 18 months on and (very) off !

Greener pastures ? I need a palette change, so probably not green (or yellow, or magenta for that matter) ! πŸ˜…

No worries ! Hope you enjoy when you get some quiet time !
..... Totally suggest the Elk version over the Beeb of course ! πŸ˜…

Cheers Nick, that Elk to Beeb conversion took up more Mojo than I thought ! 🀯

Cheers Rob 😊
There was mention of a Master 128 compatible version.... It 'runs' in JSBeeb configured as a Master at least.... we'll see, some testing required !

That required a lot more Mojo than I expected ! 🀯
Thanks for the handy tips with the sound πŸ‘

Nigel Alderton interview - the man behind ZX Spectrum classic Chuckie Egg 1983 smash hit Chuckie Egg is being remade for mobile phones, and we’ve spoken to the bedroom programming teen protΓ©gΓ© that originally made it.

Interesting interview with Chuckie Egg author Nigel Alderton, who is releasing it for iOS and Android systems.

Wonder what he would think of Chuckulus?

That's all the sounds pretty much done !

Just tidying up some artefacts visible in vsbeeb....
bbc.xania.org
Image 1 and 2 are briefly visible when changing screen modes.
Image 3 is visible when shimming memory about after loading,
and that's after I've blanked the screen with a CRTC poke !

Disgraceful !

No problems here, seems to park where it wants !

4 days ago 1 0 1 0

That's better ! Keyboard now behaves in BeebEm and JSBeeb (issues compiling an up to date B-Em, so leaving that one)

I was putting #&FF into &FE43 at the end there instead of #&7F for some reason !

Will test on real hardware an see where I'm at !
