I first encountered this idea in Ghosh’s ‘The Great Derangement’, but the short version is that one of oil’s most salient qualities is that it produces choke points everywhere and displaces more labor-intensive energy regimes that gave the working class significant leverage
This puts a countdown on my time here.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy most of the interactions on Bluesky.
But I know where this type of thing goes and I don't want to be part of it.

In other words, we're talking about agentic and generative AI as social actors, but they are first and foremost products offered by a for-profit tech sector, and we can expect them to have a similar life-cycle arc to other products we're already familiar with from that sector.

I wrote a dispatch for @equatormag.bsky.social about mass displacement in Lebanon - the second time in less than two years Israel has forced more than 1 million people to flee their homes here.
"The behaviors that we're seeing — in supporting the mom [+] the newborn — reflect a complex cooperative society that can't just be explained by 'Oh, you're related... There's something richer there — in which they live in a society where the expectation is 'I will help you so you will help me.'"
Just been approached by Huel to see if I'll be part of their paid influencer campaign. I don't think they're quite across what I do for a living. (FWIW, and in the interests of having influence, I regard Huel as a soul destroying, miserable product and the death of all that is worth living for.)
