TIL that Red Hook is Canadian, which feels crazy because way back in the day I remember funding Darkest Dungeon on Kickstarter just because I thought the art looked cool.

For my next local event feature, I spoke with Gina Hara, the co-founder & co-director of Montreal's Gamerella.
Impressively, it's the world's longest-running inclusive game jam.
Lots of great insight into running these events the past 13 years and knocking down barriers for equity-deserving people!
How often does Ford even leave the GTA?
Love when the GO Train window starts leaking and dripping water all over me ๐ฆ
For our next spotlight on Canadian game devs doing cool things locally, I had a great chat with @indigodoyle.bsky.social.
From representing small-town Ontario in @rollergirlgame.bsky.social to connecting local Toronto devs at @bonusstageto.bsky.social, I love how Indigo's work fosters community.
From representing Belleville in RollerGirl to fostering community with Bonus Stage events, Indigo Doyle's work in gaming is especially unique.

Hey Bluesky, we wanna know, what are you favourite Toronto-made games?
Let us know what we should be checking out in the replies!
A Doritos contest to give away a gaming laptop and PC peripherals. They sent me an RGB keyboard with broken Doritos pieces in it.
Doritos sent me an RGB keyboard with chip crumbs in it for a new promotional campaign. (It literally came like this.)
Certainly one of the strangest mailers Iโve ever gotten lol
Great chatting with @raphlife.bsky.social from Vancouver's @hinterland.bsky.social about The Long Dark's amazing 10+ year journey.
He discussed how they've maintained the game's popularity, the just-launched Episode 5 and shifting to the sequel, all while staying true to their Canadian identity. ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ฎ
Started years ago for me. My once-dependable Roomba hos slowly gotten worse and worse since at least 2023, to the point now where if it goes more than a few feet from the docking station, it freezes up and pings my phone that it is lost. And none of the troubleshooting I've done has fixed it.
Had a great chat with Nick Counter & @mhdante.com of Toronto's @ravinestudios.ca about North Shore, a Canada-set skating exploration game. ๐
They talked about how the influences of Nick's experiences with Canadian art & nature, fine-tuning the skating mechanics & the unique mix of coziness & horror.
Nearly $800 for a PS5 is insane.
That excellent $40/250GB Freedom deal is back until the end of the month (just in case you haven't switched yet) mobilesyrup.com/2026/03/26/f...
This is great, but I'd argue Nintendo games are still too expensive
I'm so impressed by how well Housemarque has preserved the core challenging gameplay while making it feel just a bit more manageable through tighter run design & more upgrade and modifier options for players.
I regrettably fell off Returnal so I wasn't expecting to love Saros like I have. It rocks!
Me with a statue of Arjun Devraj, the protagonist of Saros played by Rahul Kohli.

I had the privilege of visiting Housemarque in Finland to play Saros. While I found Returnal too punishing, I ADORE Saros so far!
It retains the frenetic shooting and haunting atmosphere while making runs more digestible and progression more meaningful.

I know Windows gets shit for its bloatware (deservedly so) but I was shocked at how much bloat there is in macOS.
I cannot wait!
Definitely could be a factor, I set my Neo up fresh.
Could it be the memory? I had a fairly solid experience testing the Neo, but I did note some slowdowns when trying to edit images in Photoshop while also having a ton of tabs open in Safari because I was filling the memory.
Begun, the price wars have

I hope this finally puts an end to the insane $80 connection fees carriers charge.
We had our old @mobilesyrup.com colleague Chris Brown back to tackle Marathon.
Besides this hilarious headline, I really appreciate his perspective on the shortcomings of the gameplay loop beyond the tight shooting mechanics.
Looking forward to seeing his full review down the line.
Toronto's @cococucumber.bsky.social is one of my favourite indie devs, so it was a pleasure speaking with them about Echo Generation 2.
We talked about the risks of their first-ever sequel, the evolution of voxel art, the Steam demo response and what makes the Toronto dev community special. ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ฎ
Very interested to see how the MacBook Neo performs. Could be a game changed for sub-$1,000 laptops.
โThe Alberta electricity company Capital Power, which is developing a large new AI data centre in the province powered by natural gas, lobbied the federal Mark Carney government dozens of times last year to eliminate clean energy regulations.โ
โThese regulations were subsequently dropped.โ
Mixed feelings about this plan refresh. Freedom made roaming even better -- great for travellers, but not so much for everyone else. And the sorta hidden price hike detracts from the positive changes.
Parents of kids who play video games, do you monitor/help them choose games to play? If so, how? Especially if the games in question aren't ones you're personally familiar with?
Working on a feature! Reposts appreciated! ๐
The Pixel 10a is here, and I have very mixed feelings about it. I still need to go hands-on with the phone and test it out. But on paper, this is basically just the Pixel 9a.
