Instagram video: "This company fired 1,000 employees after AI was trained on their work to replace them. Isn't that insane?"
Instagram community notes: "Actually, the workers had it coming, and this is standard practice in 2026. Get used to it, suckers."

I asked AI why Google Maps sucks now. Turns out, they removed all the useful features with the hope that AI could adequately replace them. Instead, I'm replacing Google Maps.
Tempting, but what we really need are more e-ink devices beyond e-readers. What about alarm clocks? Or large tablets you can put on your fridge for notes, calendars, etc. E-ink is so underrated lately.
Recently noticed my Windows 10 PC became EXTREMELY slow out of nowhere. Could not pinpoint the problem, until I realized Copilot was installed without my permission. Uninstalled it and everything runs 500% faster. Thanks, #microslop!
It's not just social media making us dumber. Easy to downplay COVID in 2026, but consider how radically just this one aspect of COVID has undoubtedly affected the trajectory of history.
What am I looking at in this screenshot? And where can I find information about this?
If only we had real choice when it comes to technology in 2026. It would, at best, seem unwise to trust Google, or even Apple with your data. Amazon, Microsoft, and Oracle are basically completely unavoidable. Good luck making it in society without a smart phone and Internet access!
Big tech is counting on the population being technologically illiterate so they can control us. This is not hyperbole, this is not a conspiracy theory, just a simple matter of fact. Enshittification theory, in part, speaks to how this is accomplished.
Now personal computing has been killed by cloud services, and big tech companies, having more power than governments, have helped usher in the dissolution of democracy around the world, most notably in the United States.
We used to use data centers with massive computing power to cure diseases and search for extra terrestrial life. And regular people would offer up their computing power to help!
A few months ago, ICE hired me
I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable
And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"
My latest for Slate
"Microslop" is a great moniker I saw coined recently. MS has always been a little evil in their anti-competitive ways, but the complete dismantling of everything that made Windows and Office attractive choices is going to ruin them. Once my extended Win10 license expires, I'm switching.
The tip-toeing around this guy is unreal. Shame on ABC, and seemingly everyone else.
Ice Weasel has been around for awhile now. Name makes a lot more sense than every random tech startup that sounds like a nonsense word even a small child would cringe to utter.
Is there a legal or technical reason for not having 4:3 episodes in HD? I would have bought this primarily for those if they were included. (I know, I'm being the stereotypical anime fan looking for an excuse to not buy the thing.)
Before you make that Amazon purchase: check to see if it's the same price (or cheaper!) to buy directly from the manufacturer's website. There's a decent chance Amazon is matching *their* sale, and you might even still get free shipping.

Every time I report racism, transphobia, etc. on Facebook or Instagram...
Our democracy is not self-executing. It depends on us all as citizens, regardless of our political affiliations, to stand up and fight for the core values that have made this country the envy of the world.
This is like Mark Sisson with better branding.
Link doesn't work without the app! Can you download and reshare?
Sea salt popcorn bag shows "SEAS THE DAY" on its side.
Hey, brands. Are you listening? Shut up.
We've known this for at least a decade now.
Is there an HD scan of Dagger of Kamui? Or in the works? Or would that be an upscale job? Would love to see it again in the highest possible quality.
If I could find an apartment for $1100 right now it'd be the happiest day of my life. I can't even find 1BR for $1600 where I live.
The bit about the beard is embarrassing. I get wanting to keep things light from time to time, but I don't expect that kind of fluff from NPR, especially during times such as these.
Large tree in a field next to a road with a wooden fence during the golden hour.
Sometimes you just need to take a walk in the park to put things in perspective.
Deer sighting.
This is amazing
HBO Max was the best streaming service by a huge margin for awhile. Then there was a sharp decline, even more it switched to "MAX." Countless classics have been purged and replaced with some of the most bottom of the barrel slop.
This a great encapsulation of my preference in anime on a visual level. Used to be common in the 90s, but almost nothing has looked like this since. It's like everyone forgot how to use color once things went digital.
