This is why I'm always going on about how liberals and centrists have accepted that some degree of suffering must be baked into society. 10-20% suffering... whatever it is. That's the table stakes. Refusing to allow themselves to even dream of a world where this is an obvious affront.

They're like a team owner who is just happy to host one home playoff series a year and pick up the extra gate revenue. Fans can't complain too much because they're "competitive."

In a way you could say The Strokes ruined my life It seemed like the beginning of a new era and it was just not in the way I thought it was going to be

I said that they should keep it up and things like that that you say to a young band and I don’t think he had much of a reaction either way to that piece of advice. Thanks man he probably said to me while I was standing there holding a hot dog.

A big part of why the elite media and politicians have been railing against the supposed power of the purple haired baristas with their frivolous concerns and moralistic hectoring for years now is the older people’s struggle to reconcile the fact that the lefty students protesting against war and ICE and for trans rights and so on have something that they will never have again which is youth. There is an abundance of everything available to every human being on earth except for one single thing. And running out of it can drive a person insane. To be fair it's driving me insane too but it is pushing my soul in the opposite direction. Life is supposed to be beautiful and everyone should get to live it without a gun metaphorical or literal pointed at their heads every second of every day.
Do you suppose that gluttonous self interest above all is a kind of serenity or does it more closely resemble the torment of the damned? Not only dwelling in isolation from God and humanity but doing so by choice. A self-imposed exile.

without lionizing Leo XIV too much, i think people are brought up short by encountering someone in a position of authority who seems to have commitments to stable concepts of right and wrong that supersede class loyalty to other powerful people (which is largely the same as what Dan is saying)

The history books were absolutely cooking me. Simply because of who I had been and what I had done. They always warned about this in my day but who could give a shit now. Almost no one makes it in those things. When they even bother to publish them anymore. Either way I’m chilling here in this elaborate tomb with all of my gold and the skeletons of dozens of my women and most loyal soldiers. The landscaping outside always well fertilized. Every day people file by to come look at where I rest. Where I still exist. You could almost say I never even died. And what did they write about you?

Yes, the Grink was there. I'm getting to that. He was on that island with me. And I wouldn't be alive to tell my story without him.
