* Of course, location could have been inferred alternatively, e.g., WIFI, IP etc. The links can be found here:

Interestingly, the Play Store privacy labels of these apps reveal that only 3 in 4 apps state they share data with third parties and less than half disclose the sharing of location (i.e. GPS) data*.
As headlines already suggested, the list contains renowned apps with many users – predominantly belonging to the games category. It is apparent that all are ad-based and thus many pinpoint to the ad ecosystem being the origin of the user’s location info.
Reports are coming in about an apparent data breach of a large location seller [1]. Researchers like @fs0c131y.com had a look at a sample and extracted apps involved [2]. I looked into many of these apps on Google's Play Store and their privacy disclosures.
Comeback on Bluesky with a podcast I took part in on Temu and how the EU may intervene under the Digital Services Act (DSA), highlighting that the moderation of illegal products on Temu has increased significantly since the investigation launched in October.
Fully agree, there are many challenges and my impression is that it is getting worse over time (e.g., restrictions, outages, and removals). Let’s keep in touch!
You're absolutely correct and I do observe additional targeting parameters to go down a lot. It is just interesting to observe that lesser personalization and/or profiling doesn't seem to affect the amount of ads targeted to that group. Looking forward to your analysis!
Tagging some DSA folks to look out for: @alhohlfeld.bsky.social @hutko.bsky.social

EU's Digital Services Act (DSA) does not permit targeted advertising based on profiling toward children (<18y) and TikTok said it would restrict types of data used to show ads. Data from TikTok’s ad library suggests no change with the enactment in the share of ads targeted toward users aged 13-17.📉📈
If and how to regulate digital platforms. Quite some interesting policy shocks going on/coming up.
What’s happening on TikTok’s ad library? Almost all “top” ads first shown shortly after the official release do not display info on the size of targeted audience anymore. It seems like most of these ads do not use additional parameters (excluding gender/age) to target users, too. 📉📈
