NEW ANALYSIS: More than 80% of UK social housing still relies on gas boilers keeping bills exposed to international gas markets and climate targets out of reach.
I’ve explored how other European countries are tackling this at scale, and what the UK can learn.

Really proud to be involved in the @globalcanopy.org research for the latest Which? guide on UK banks and the #climate crisis.
Hats off to @triodosuk.bsky.social and The Co-operative Bank for being the good guys. ⬇️

🌎 On #EarthDay, we're calling on the UK government to fulfil its 2021 promise to ban commodities produced on illegally deforested land. The delay has already cost forests worldwide. We demand ambitious regulations before #COP30 in November⬇️

Estimates suggest more than a third of Brazil’s Amazon timber is of illegal origin - and a lot of it ends up in the United States and Europe as luxury decks, benches and public boardwalks.
The panel also featured Helen Bellfield, co-director of @trase.earth. "There exists huge transparency gaps in indirect supply chains. Using per-shipment trade data & information on where companies own assets, Trase maps the supply chain, enabling companies to focus on areas with highest risk.”
#MarmaladeFestival | Belinda Borck, public policy lead for EU, US & UK at Tony’s Chocolonely, explained the importance of shifting mindsets on #data control. “Farm owners should own their GPS mapping data & be fairly compensated. Each company sourcing from the same farmers should share the data."
🔊“Regulation is great, but it’s all about implementation” - Aisha Raheem, CEO and co-founder of Farmz2u, at a Global Canopy-led discussion at the Marmalade Festival on the critical role played by open data to end #deforestation and associated human rights abuses.
@skollfoundation.bsky.social
well done @anneliesedoddsmp.bsky.social.
I'm with you. In a world that needs leaders, we lose so much by cutting our aid budget

#Climate change scepticism has "almost disappeared" from the British press and instead been replaced by a critique of climate action.
That means as environmentalists we have to change too and highlight how climate action can build the economy and not weaken it.

I was tasked with writing a piece about why environmentalists shouldn't be too miserable about the last few months of 2024.
I mean, it hasn't been great, but that doesn't mean there's not still a lot to play for.

Great BBC Rare Earth programme on the droughts and fires in the #Amazon featuring Global Canopy Executive Director Niki Mardas.
Our thanks to @tomheap.bsky.social and @helenczerski.bsky.social for marshalling the subject so expertly!

It did not take long until the naysayers on heat pumps also arrived on Bluesky.
To all of the "experts" commenting in my feed that heat pumps don't work: STUDY THE SCIENCE!
I have - here's my summary: www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-18...
ps I am biased. I do work for them.
But the work we do has never been more important!
In the last 2 months we've had:
1️⃣Failure to agree a deal at COP16
2️⃣A deeply unsatisfactory deal at COP29
3️⃣No deal on tackling plastics pollution.
Governments are not doing enough which means supporting civil society is more important than ever

My first skeet, is that really what these are called? And yes it's about #deforestation...
The #EUDR is a chance for the EU to lead the world. Is it perfect? No. But the EU amendments to it, make it worse not better.
Great article by my Trase colleagues.
