Thanks! Thatโ€™s interesting. Tidal bars can start with relatively large lengths, while isolated bars grow from short to long over time. I guess that would match the curly R dependence you found. It would be interesting to see the distributions of both the numerator and the denominator.

Do you also find that the absolute values of the pattern speed depend on the environment?

Face-on surface density distribution, for five snapshots of both our double-barred galaxies, showing their evolution from single barred to double barred. The three right panels show different relative orientations between the inner and outer bars. When they align, like in the rightmost panel for DB2, the galaxy may appear as single barred.

A new tidal scenario for double bar formation ABSTRACT. Double bars make up a significant fraction of barred galaxies. We propose a new formation scenario for double bars that involves tidal interactio

At NAM 2025 in Durham @nam25-durham.bsky.social , Marcin Semczuk is speaking on "Bars in TNG50 - slowdown and formation of double bars". Marcin has published in #MNRAS Letters: academic.oup.com/mnrasl/artic...

Job market with increasingly growing competitiveness means โ€œpublish or perishโ€ but every time harder than the previous year. Having the time for โ€œquality over quantityโ€ is the privilege of the few with secure funding. More balance needed between numbers of new PhDs and new faculty jobs

How do the double bars form? It appears that tidal interactions may sometimes play a role. Read more in our now-accepted MNRAS Letter ๐Ÿ”ญhttps://doi.org/10.1093/mnrasl/slad175
