The fact that "being taxed on a wealth that would take most people dozens of generations to gather" is "the scariest thing she's ever seen" means the world isn't scaring millionaires and billionaires nearly enough yet.

The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Clockwise from top left:
1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.”

2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”.

3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.”

4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.

I'm a coward. I can't delete it.

If it's too clever I can't be sure I'll ever be that clever again, what if that very specific problem ever comes back?

I just imprison them in #regions marked "made for X, not currently used" and let them rot at an ever-growing graveyard at the end of the file.

"We need an official name for not-vibe-coding. My top candidates are:
* boomer coding
* chewgy coding
* trad coding
* Coding with a capital C

Suggestions are welcome."

I dropped a bit after I started part 2 as well, without really realizing it

I just stopped going back to read it because everytime I sat down to start I've spent so long on that "wait, what was happening last time..?" that I got distracted and went to do something else

just finished adding support for effects being able to spawn/initiate other subeffects, like a a melee slash that spawns a magic projectile, both with their own modular damage, stats and interactions etc

so I made this simple skill to test it & really liked the VFX for it

I don’t think we should go back to twitter levels of toxicity but there’s a lot of confidently stupid turbolib opinions on here that can only exist in a low predator environment.

That’s what I tell my students. My brain will be fine. I studied, got my PhD, got tenure. They are the ones whose brains will be at a disadvantage because they chose not to develop them.

In general I think many designers would benefit from thinking holistically about the information economy in their game.

Often we approach information from a narrow problem-solving perspective: "I am trying to build X, I need to find a way to make sure player knows Y and Z about X."

everyone sane knows death threats are bad and every famous enough person/institution receives them, because the world is shitty. its a f*cked up reality of being public online, specially for journalists and/or in the gamergate industry.

focusing on it in an apology video is absolutely a choice.

cant know if this post is serious

personally, first one to me looks like a fancy blockout, with different materials just for technical/playtesting purposes, while the second one tends more towards early stages of an intentional art direction, closer to what's gonna be there at launch.

After hours of reading about piracy rates, the two best things I found were:

- A 2010 U.S. Government Accountability Office report to congress calling most reports on piracy bullshit / lobby tools

- A world map of showing the % per Internet connection of BitTorrent game pirates lol (boa Portugal!)

Spent the last month or so working on this new (and very important!) area for ABYSS X ZERO!

Haven't worked on an area like this since the Downtown from UNSIGHTED, so it's been very nostalgic to create these urban/city assets.

A lot of WIP elements here still!

made a colossal weapon skill to test some stance breaking & knockback stuff I was doing but it ended up way prettier than necessary

I cant stop hearing the impact sound every time. VFX are just so fun

doubt its about space anymore. its about control

studios have become used to D1 patches, DRM and live fixes to the point it doesnt make sense to have anything dumped on a cartridge sitting idle in a storehouse months before release just to be leaked and and still be behind the latest build anyway

What does an artist do, mostly? She tweaks that which she’s already done. There are those moments when we sit before a blank page, but mostly we’re adjusting that which is already there. The writer revises, the painter touches up, the director edits, the musician overdubs. I write, “Jane came into the room and sat down on the blue couch,” read that, wince, cross out “came into the room” and “down” and “blue” (Why does she have to come into the room? Can someone sit UP on a couch? Why do we care if it’s blue?) and the sentence becomes “Jane sat on the couch – ” and suddenly, it’s better (Hemingwayesque, even!), although … why is it meaningful for Jane to sit on a couch? Do we really need that? And soon we have arrived, simply, at “Jane”, which at least doesn’t suck, and has the virtue of brevity.

See also, George Saunders' essay "What writers really do when they write" which has maybe the definitive paragraph on editing I've ever read. www.theguardian.com/books/2017/m...

This is one of those "Last of Us rope" things that players wouldn't bat an eye at but developers look at and go "wow........................real life sorcery"

The Unity HDRP is Dead – GameFromScratch.com Unity have just announced HDRP and the Built In Render pipelines are as good as dead with URP being the new priority SRP

but rest assured that if youre now completely dependent on built-in, Unity wont just leave you hanging without some official, easy and reliable way to convert all your assets and configs to URP, since its a forced change.

right? 🤡

It's incredible how it was revealed that the anti-trans push over the past decade was concocted in no small part by a literal PEDOPHILE CONSPIRACY and the reaction of transphobic lawmakers, journalists, academics has been a shrug and a "well, we gotta
carry out the orders from pedophile island"
