Not even close to the worst thing going on right now, but the sheer amount of spam scams being aided by AI isn’t talked about enough. It’s not only a drain on people victimized by the scams, but a tremendous drain on the productivity of everyone who has to wade through it.

We are a small press but don’t use AI for anything and never will. We hire artists for our covers and our editorial staff uses their brains. There is no world in which we would outsource art to a plagiarism machine that enriches billionaires and also doesn’t work.

This is exactly what needs to happen: Consequences for crimes, corruption, and abuse. If there are no consequences the authoritarians will just come back and be worse. For examples, see history. In the U.S., it began with pardoning Nixon, then no penalties for Reagan, Bush, or ew, the current guy.
We congratulate the people of Hungary for throwing out the fascists. We hope other countries in the grips of authoritarians will soon follow suit.

There are some jabronis out there claiming all writers use AI. That’s horseshit. Our writers, editors, and artists do not, nor will we ever. Stories for humans should be written by humans, not a slop machine of stolen ideas.
