The reply guy surfaces!

Perhaps “European” is best understood as "on the Continent” in this case. We don’t really see those products here very often.

More relevantly, I don’t think many small European manufacturers have added nitro widgets as an option to their canning lines.

War and Cime Careddu launch Italy’s first canned “nitro” beer with widget For a long time, in the European craft beer world, innovation has been almost entirely confined to the brewhouse: new styles, increasingly exotic ingredients, unconventional fermentations, alternative...

Pretty interesting story about Italy’s first widget-can nitro beer, a “quite unique case in the European landscape.” Put together by Birrificio War in Lombardy and a small packaging company called Cime Careddu in Piedmont.

They’ve been serving gravity kegs from Knoblach (and others) for maybe 15 years now. Not a new thing here.

A bunch of people in a moody cellar bar in Prague with balloons that say “20.”

Prague’s best beer bar turned 20 years old today. We drained numerous gravity kegs of Knoblach (self-serve; have fun!), emptied endless platters of mini-schnitzels and said cheers to countless old friends. I’ve known most of these folks for over two decades. It was a time.

I talked to a group of university students today about journalism, mentioning that I thought worker- / writer-owned publications were dope.
They hadn’t heard about them!
I gave shoutouts to:

Who else should I tell them to look up?

i go on TikTok regularly enough to know that when a band has no resources, they're relying on more typical, stunty techniques to pick up social media relevance, which is characteristically different from "why are there suddenly fifty Geese accounts showing me the same Geese clips?"

Heading out for a press preview of the new William Kentridge show, with commentary by the artist himself, if you want to know how my week is going.

I mostly meant the way they handled the tragedy of a spouse and parent dying, with the “reveal” to his patient (and the viewer) as a plot device. Gross. Lazy. Trite.
Emotionally manipulative, but empty.

Successful Pitches One of the hardest parts of freelance writing is the mysterious art and complicated science of writing pitches.

My little pro-bono project, www.successfulpitches.com is back online after some security and formatting issues. It's a resource to see what pitches that got commissioned look like. For folks new to the industry, it's a peek at what good ones look like.

Not sure if that’s true for all Anglo-Saxons: nobody calls Lisa Marie Presley “Lisa.” Billie Joe Armstrong is Billie Joe to his friends and fans.

That said, I appreciate your point about naming conventions from other cultures. I certainly don’t get it right all of the time, either.

Deep respect for Lars Marius, whose name keeps getting foreshortened to "Lars” by folks who really could do better, and yet I’ve never seen him correct anyone about it.

This is not about beer, but I hope you'll click through anyway. We're about to go through a massive society-wide shift, and it has to do with the written word (the thing I understand even better than beer). So have a look.

One version included the part about bombing them into glass, along with something about then going over with some Windex to clean things up afterward. Maybe McCain, as someone else mentioned? (Also solid Gen X over here.)

What Happened To The 'Big Three' US Airlines' Inflight Magazines? United Airlines was the last of the three to stop printing its magazine.

I was trying to figure out why I don’t get many freelance travel writing assignments lately, despite the return of international tourism, which is now even larger than before the pandemic.
One reason: many magazines simply don’t exist anymore.

I’ve been meaning to rewatch it for decades, man, and my eldest (17) would probably really be into it now. So I guess I have to order the blu-ray, goddamit.
