A bench in a fallen oak tree
The Blenheim Estate lost an oak, and as they like their fallen trees to remain in place to encourage wildlife, they asked artist Matthew Crabb to do his magic

A red squirrel clings to a tree surrounded by branches. The background is blurry green woodland.
We’ve got some fantastic nature news to brighten your day ✨
This is the first confirmed sighting of a red squirrel in the main visitor area of Wallington since Storm Arwen in November 2021. A visitor spotted the red in the Wellbeing Woods (West woods) whilst walking.

Just extraordinary to witness this nature-hating government sabotaging Labour’s own legacy. And for absolutely no reason: nature protection isn’t blocking development - it’s a necessary prerequisite for it (& for everything else, come to that…)
I’m not a clubber, but that so much good stuff is happening in North Shields (this, the mural trail, town centre improvements, etc) gives me hope amidst the crap.

Fabulous to see the launch of the APPG on Play @appgonplay.bsky.social - very hopeful that play will start be taken as seriously as it demands, with the hope of a new national play strategy and play sufficiency legislation.

The Primary Geography Interview: Dr Meryl Batchelder
With a background in geochemistry, when I became a teacher, I had to pick Science or Geography. I chose science but, by focusing on environment & sustainability, the boundaries blurred. What an honour to be interviewed by Tessa Willy for @geographicalassoc.bsky.social's Primary Geography magazine 😊
Hello—Is A River Alive? has been adapted as Radio 4’s Book of the Week next week.
Five episodes, read by me—& we’ve folded in field recordings & some beautiful Max Richter music.
First episode, Anima, broadcasts tomorrow at 11.45am.
You can listen here:

Hello—Is A River Alive? is out a week today, on 1 May.
I went to Clays the printer to see how my books are made (many marvellous machines!) & to sign 3000 special editions.
Here’s what happened in 40 seconds.
