Thank you Vermont. So educational for the Vance children.

@briannosek.bsky.social reminded me that a very replicable finding is that the pressure to conform is greatly reduced by even a single dissenter. Great to hear the call from @holdenthorp.bsky.social this morning: Come together, right now.

Ocular auras preceding a migraine are the most fantastical way your brain can announce impending pain. Like, here’s a shiny and sparkly light show only for you! Have fuuunnn!!!
Ok so you know I disagree that precision medicine is just a rebranding, BUT I totally agree that most people (and companies) trivialize the process and validation of claims.
So precise, so demure
Starting the day with snacks and snow ❄️
Me, awkwardly, “as Yogi Berra once said…” 🫠
I’m wrapping up my first semester teaching graduate epi methods. I inherited the course from a respected instructor—teaching from someone else’s slides is rough, especially when they’re full of sports references 😵💫 Lesson learned, notes taken. Calling it a success (pending course evals…)
I’m looking forward to engaging with this vibrant community on topics like science, chronic disease, public health, and the ways we can all make a difference. Say hello, drop a comment, or let me know what inspires you—I’d love to connect! 🌟 (5/5)
On a personal note, I live in the Hudson Valley, NY, with my husband, & our 18-month-old son. I spend as much time outdoors as possible. I see us all as stewards of this beautiful planet and draw inspiration from efforts to protect it for future generations. (4/n)
I’m passionate about translating data into real-world impact, exploring cutting-edge study designs, and supporting others navigating biotech and clinical research. I love connecting with people who share a drive to advance science and improve health outcomes. (3/n)
I specialize in molecular diagnostics, where my work focuses on building robust, fit-for-purpose tests, always with a patient-centric mentality. My expertise lies in designing studies for early detection and precision medicine, with a strong focus on methodology and practical application. (2/n)
Hello, BlueSky! 👋
It’s so nice to see so many new and familiar faces joining the platform. I’ve gained quite a few new followers recently, so I thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself. I’m Debbie, and I’m excited to connect with this growing community! (1/n)
I had a dream last night that I solved a murder mystery using epidemiological principles. Not sure if I need to ease off the podcasts or lean into this skill set uncovered by my subconscious…
I never thought I would embrace such a slow and quiet life with a new baby, but again, everything changed. I am still doing some light work through consulting and co-teaching an epi methods course at UIC, but that fast paced life from "before" is currently on pause, and I couldn't be happier. (3/3)
It is an ongoing struggle, and I find myself wishing that we gave more space, time, and resources to accommodate postpartum healing. In my postpartum haze, with the weight of new responsibilities in what felt like a broken body, I quit my job and decided to focus on my healing. (2/n)
4 months ago, I gave birth to my son, and EVERYTHING changed. You think you know priorities, you think you know what it means to be tired or busy or in love - and then you have a kid. Those definitions have all changed. The most difficult transition for me, though, has been in my physical body (1/n)
Joining Bluesky feels a bit like breaking up with a toxic boyfriend only to date his twin brother.
Let's see if this one is nicer to us ;-)
