The culture war issues and so-called "kitchen-table" economic issues are indelibly linked. Repubs exploit culture war grievances while ignoring the economic plight of workers. Dems shy away from countering right-wing culture war attacks bc they see them as a distraction from economic inequality.
One of the many ironies here is that if Dems leaned hard into New Deal style welfare state policies meant to help working class people of all genders, races, ethnicities, and religions, of whatever immigration status, it would be met with rabid opposition yet would prove insanely popular if passed.
