i use blender and aseprite

thanks! the basic setup is just a material with a bunch of pre-drawn 2d sprites on top of each other from this sheet. i just swap what's in each layer for different expressions. the eyebrows are 3d so i can move em around, and the eyelashes are 3d meshes with shape keys for each eye shape
