Today I am cooking one of my favourite dishes!

Governor Tina Kotek on Thursday afternoon vetoed a controversial public meetings bill that received bipartisan support in the spring legislative session, but which public watchdog groups said would greatly undermine transparency and accountability in local government.
As 17 years PPS parent with son and DILs teachers, I can see why professional development days might not count as instructional days even though they make the days with the students more effective. Parent-teacher conferences are absolutely instructional days. Informed parents teach kids better too.
Hooray! Well done and thank you @tinakotek.bsky.social. Now more than ever we need deliberations and decisions to be done in public.
The NYT headline made me laugh out loud. How cute that a recent convert attempts to school the Pope. Pope Pius XII infamously didn’t denounce the Nazis during WWII2. I’m glad Leo is speaking out.
Duh. Don’t know why he thought it would be last weekend. Glad he’s learning on the job.
Shameful the City isn’t funding Leach after years of millions invested. @counciloravalos.bsky.social @councilordunphy.bsky.social and Councilor Loretta Smith, are you on this? Commissioner Fish from inner NE and I from SW dedicated big money to Leach. The jewel of East Portland.
This is good news for those of us women who have stairs in our home, especially we who carry groceries upstairs. I will still strive for many more walking steps. I average more than 20 flights daily due to stairs in my home, but glad to know I might slack off in bad weather

Congratulations to the UCLA Women’s basketball team on winning their first NCAA championship!
The California State Capitol will be lit tonight in blue and yellow in their honor.
Go Bruins! Fours up!
"“Tonight,” he told the audience, “we ask all of you to join with us in choosing hope over fear. Democracy, over authoritarianism. The rule of law over lawlessness. Ethics over unbridled corruption. Resistance over complacency. Unity over division and peace over ...”"
Amazing rally, I mean concert.
A community advocate and immigrant from Bhutan created the event to help provide a sense of joy and unity.
March 31, Cesar Chavez's birthday, used to be a celebratory day for Latino and labor rights communities.
Those events have been cancelled. Now, in Portland, ppl are calling for a way to acknowledge the recently revealed painful revelations about Chavez's past -- through changing a street sign.
A fave snap from this:
Marta Guembes led the successful campaign to rename Portland’s 39th Ave after Chavez in the late 2000s. Last week, following the news of Chavez's alleged abuse against women & girls, Guembes took a photograph of Chavez off her kitchen wall & carefully cut it into 39 pieces.
Portland getting national attention for this wonderful event founded by Som Subedi when he was with Portland Parks & Rec and still led by him.
‘We didn’t want to be preachy’: David Attenborough’s unexpected new show – which might enrage cat lovers
I was honored to attend the opening ceremony of the newly renamed ‘Scht Wiwnu Park in SW Portland today. Speakers traveled across the state, from the Warm Springs Reservation (one of 9 federally recognized tribes in Oregon). So powerful to hear the story of resilience. #schtwiwnupark
Given the lifting of the injunction prohibiting ICE from tear gas use against lawful protesters, I hope the downtown rally participants don’t walk (I don’t use “march” which sounds military) to S Waterfront. Everyone knows we oppose them. Don’t expose Gray’s Landing residents to more chemicals.
I appreciate @kgw.com.web.brid.gy (what’s up with the handle that looks like a fake site?) dedicated the better part of ten minutes at the start of the 6:30 news, instead if burying it at the end, to celebrate Grant McOmie. Truly an Oregon treasure who exposed us to many other Oregon treasures.
“My first thought was the safety of the community members and the property of nearby vehicles and structures,” the officer said. www.koin.com/news/portland/portland-p...
Or maybe protests stay away from ICE building to protect Gray’s Landing residents? The numbers of protesters is important. Getting tear gassed by ICE facility is less important than health of affordable housing residents. Block the roads away from the building, don’t get close and expose residents.
It took more than five years to rename Southwest Portland’s Custer Park to ‘Scht Wiwnu. Not everyone is happy.
Yep it was even more smoky from my seats right up wind from fireworks @thornsfc.com
Way too much smoke from pregame fireworks @thornsfc.com! Any chance you could turn it down a little, avoid gassing us and let us see the tifo and the beginning of the game? Please?
Lots of fans riding the free-with-ticket TriMet bus too!
