This Republican Congress has been historically dysfunctional and does not know how to pass budgets. We are confident that every FY 27 budget proposal the Republicans are introducing is headed straight for the trash. I will do everything I can to make that a reality (3/3)

It is one of over a dozen extreme attacks Republicans are trying to impose on DC through the federal budget. The proposal also cuts funding for DC public schools, forces us to accept extreme gun laws, and prevents us from making our own decisions about the issues we care about (2/3)

The House Republican proposal for the portion of the FY 27 federal budget dealing with DC would allow DC employers to fire women for receiving an abortion, having children, or making any other reproductive decision. (1/3)

It was a pleasure to meet with former DC Mayor and current Federal City Council CEO Tony Williams today to discuss how we can reduce housing costs for Washingtonians

DC says no to kings and yes to Statehood

One of many reasons DC deserves statehood is to stop Congress from wasting its time on show votes over hyper-local DC issues when it should be trying to fix the big problems this country is facing. This bill will die in the Senate

Agree with your analysis, but we don't want to be complacent here. And even if they don't succeed, they are setting a precedent that Democrats can use in the future

Republicans are now talking about passing the SAVE Act through reconciliation. If they can pass their anti-voting bill through reconciliation, Democrats can pass a pro-voting bill through reconciliation when we get the trifecta next & make Washington DC the 51st state punchbowl.news/archive/3242...

The House Oversight Committee voted on Wednesday to advance forward a bill that would ban all traffic cameras in DC and allow right turns on red in front of playgrounds, schools, and recreation centers. See for yourself the ridiculous arguments they made in favor of this dangerous legislation

This bill would also stop DC from banning right turns on red at playgrounds, schools, and libraries. You can see below what law it repeals. Why are Republicans trying to make kids in DC just going to school or a playground less safe?

Yet another attack on DC coming out of House Oversight, this one focused on benefiting the very members voting for it by allowing them to speed through DC with no consequences. I'm thankful every Democrat voted No, and am hopeful the same will be true if there is a House vote

The bill sponsor has already admitted that he's doing this out of "personal frustration"! You can see for yourself what he says here: washingtonian.com/2026/03/05/w...

The House Oversight Committee will be voting on a bill to remove every traffic camera in DC (HR 5525) next Wednesday. I hope someone asks the bill's supporters how many DC tickets they've gotten and why they're more focused on their own pocketbooks than solving problems for their constituents

This is a funny thing for him to say because I and many other DC leaders have tried to schedule meetings with Vindman repeatedly before these votes and he has refused us even a staff-level meeting every time

This is great to see. I pointed out Martin’s flagrantly illegal actions at the time and I am thankful every day he is not DC’s U.S. Attorney

When DC stands up and fights back, we win. DC's child tax credit and expanded EITC are the law, Washingtonians can file our taxes as normal, and Congress did not succeed in vetoing DC law. I will work hard to defend DC from any temper tantrums Republicans may throw in response

Congratulations to @robertwhitedc.bsky.social & @cmbrookepinto.bsky.social for unanimously passing these emergency bills! Now the Council should pass permanent versions of both bills. I will work hard to defend them from congressional veto

The bill would also require the release of body camera footage from MPD officers at the scene of federal use of force--another essential safeguard. Call your ward and At-Large councilmembers TODAY and tell them to vote Yes docs.google.com/document/d/1...

We have no idea how MPD is working with federal immigration authorities because MPD is deliberately not collecting that data. The FAAR Act would require them to collect it. It is an essential bill to protect immigrants in DC from federal abuse. The Council should pass it today

The Iranian regime is evil and has buried the legitimate aspirations of its people. But if it collapses, what comes next? Likely years of grinding civil war that kills thousands more. President Trump has embarked on a breathtakingly stupid, destructive, and unconstitutional endeavor

I am left to wonder how many lives will be destroyed by President Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran. How many soldiers will be killed? How many American families will be ripped apart? How many innocent Iranian civilians will be murdered? Already dozens, likely many more

The law is clear--the laws the Council passed to decouple from Trump's Big Ugly Bill governs DC's 2025 tax filing season. The DC government must follow the rule of law and make no changes to 2025 tax filings

These are treacherous times for DC so I don’t begrudge anybody for being strategic. But part of strategy is knowing what the odds are and not just assuming the worst. All the evidence is that any bill congressional Republicans could run in response would fail in the Senate
