My dad and Pat Highsmith were good friends in 1953 inTrieste where he was head of security in the postwar mess btwn Italy and Yugoslavia and McCarthy.
She liked him. Maybe for his knowledge on silent killing and small boats. And of corse his Irish charisma.

Met them at dinner in the early days of their odyssey. They’d just been GIVEN a house with 18 acres of land! I remember her faux naive all-in-a-daze response to their good fortune. Conversation was 1-way & hard work. I was asked to interview RW at a literary festival for her second book & declined.

Morning all, 79,000 signatures down, 21,000 to go!
