Day 4 of Nibiru on Kickstarter!

The Skyless World is a megastructure of unknown origin, where the beating heart of the Core and its artificial gravity exert influence over its steel expanse - thoroughly shaping its autochthonous, bioelectric lifeforms.

I'm not sure if what we're doing is the first of its kind, but it has been awesome designing this massive project with everyone! Nobody fully agrees on anything lmao

It runs any fantasy/D&D/Pathfinder/OSR adventure like a dream, but also has strong support for collaboratively creating a world using its exploration and town/site creation rules.

I'm helping to make this project a reality because I think Grimwild is the best fantasy ttrpg to come out in years.

and shouldn't that do the heaviest lifting? What else, if not that?

I've never met a ttrpg designer releasing works who isn't making something they want to play.

What game, specifically, caused this post?

The sandbox is your playground, but my heart is that rusty red mechanical digging machine that makes this sandbox way cooler than the ones without it.

But I would also say I do not think of this way of writing ttrpgs as subliminal, but rather 'impurposefully educational'. In the same way that a burnt cd of Xenogears for PS1 taught some children how to read so they could experience it, my games teach of my interests so you can experience them.

Hilariously, as I was searching up SMT lore for which games present the false creator god, the Demiurge, or Yaldabaoth, as a boss, so I could bring this back to video games as all serious discussions must, I found the wiki has a solid breakdown of the belief!

In short, the god who created the physical realm was born of a mistake, and it is an evil and foolish god who knows nothing of the true heavenly realms. The true god is like the Monad, the One, who emanated all things, all other gods and realms. The physical realm is a prison, etc. etc.

In 20 years when I finish the last 3/4ths of my reimagining of Demon the Descent with Grimwild's system and a gnostic setting, you'll be able to experience it first-hand!

For now, it's one of the more understandable gnostic texts, and it's a pretty wild ride.

On designer intentionality versus player control (and the perpetual creation of the self) Is TTRPG design a craft for the enrichment and construction of *you,* or an art for the expression and apotheosis of *me?*

The trick is to make the game so fucking cool (and easy enough to play and read at a basic level) that they don't realize they're balls deep in your niche special interest until it's too late. You've fooled them into not only learning about all the different heavenly palaces, but exploring them.

but every test, every challenge, in the fiction and outside the fiction, is me.

The GM thinks the setting is so cool they unknowingly understand the gnostic Apocryphon of John. Players have fun with powerful angel & demon powers, but they're secretly forced into becoming christ or anti-christ.

Great post! I totally get all of this, so it has made me reflect on my own design, and I've come to somewhat of an answer for myself. In everything I create, I'm the overlord, or antagonist, the players must struggle against.

I am providing a rulings-not-rules sandbox for the players to muck about

One of the worst to ever do it

One of the funniest experiences I've had playing ttrpgs was a mini campaign using Cypher, where everybody just made fun of Monte Cook after every session because the system was so fucking godawful. We'd pull old quotes, talk about his adventure 'design', and really run the gamut.

..., if you agree with the pitch linked above, and you would like to offer yourself to provide GSIC infrastructure to global south folk who are locked out of crowdfunding as well as payment processing systems. If you are serious and earnest about this and agree to our standards, reach out!

I used to have a roommate just so we could go 50/50 on board games to afford them!

I've come to the conclusion ttrpgs and board games are fake hobbies that everybody just pretends to engage in, because they're obviously not paying these shipping prices

This is amazing! I hope this style of web content takes over the ttrpg sphere!

A full adventure on a website with great layout. You love to see something this awesome. The dungeon map gives you mouse over text for each room, and you can click on a room to have it scroll down to that full entry. Incredible work!

My main group for the last year and a half swaps systems & every 6-12 sessions, and it's like being in the hyperbolic time chamber for GMing. It's absolutely ludicrous how much quicker I'm progressing as a GM and player than I ever did before.

A poweful, hungry, ogre roams the halls of a dungeon as his hunting ground and food supply, the underground river which fish swam through, was dammed by another faction who stopped the river to plant & harvest a unique type of medicinal plant grown in the mud of its bottom.
