All morning, I've been thinking I was gimpier than usual. The toes of my left foot hurt a lot. Had my arthritis gotten worse? It finally got so bad. I took my shoe off, thinking to change to sandals. It usually collapses as the crosspieces burn through. This works well, with just a little prep work.

It's time and past to dump out the ash. I close the vents when done and save the unburned charcoal for next time.

Under the charcoal is a tic-tac-toe grid of hardwood, strip of pine in the middle and thin kindling piled under it. Once it starts, air comes in at the open ends and sweeps flame up the hollow middle, catching the charcoal quickly. When I flatten it out, the hardwood is charcoaled, too.

Pork Roast with chicken-mushroom broth, apple, turnip, spring onions, parsnips, carrots, fennel bulb and maitake, gray oyster and king mushrooms; the meat got 3.5 hours: falling-apart tender. Meat marinated in cider vinegar, spicy mustard, pickle relish, squirt of lime juice, soy, Worcestershire.

I made a "winklebox" for one of my cats, a smallish cardboard box with a round hole barely big enough to get a play mouse out of with one paw. I stuff it full of the mice with catnip near the far end. It's light enough that he has to stabilize it and work to get the mice out. And inexpensive.

So, not like a toothpick, then?

I dunno. Some part of my bofy lights up, I'm probaly gonna notice. if it's in the form of a little pictographs, I'll probably need help: I thought my car was warning me about a fat helicopter for six months before the engine seized up.

It's a vile old backyard grill about 2 ft.² gray and white ash and a hollow pyramid made a big chunks of black charcoal surround a hot looking orange flame burning and hardwood. It's been started with bits of pine kindling. The back of the grill is up providing a flat black backdrop. We're looking down so we can see the green green grass. Well mostly weeds of my backyard.

Back at it, despite a day so windy it took more than one match to start.
