#NetworkRail are getting bogged down in their own justifications but the point is that the swift nesting sites are blocked and they can unblock them. 📧email CEO Jeremy Westlake asking him to unblock them: jeremy.westlake@networkrail.co.uk #SaveOurSwifts #UnblockTheNests
A (quite personal) essay from me about reclaiming rewilding in Wales, out in @inkcapjournal.bsky.social today.
I was born, raised and still live in rural Wales. My ancestral farmhouse is a ruin surrounded by conifer trees. I understand the fears.
But it's the loss of nature I fear far more.
Gather with friends and family at dusk and enjoy each other's company while looking for bats in the night sky. Take part in the sunset survey, find out more here www.bats.org.uk/our-work/nat...
Wild Card are honoured to be featured in Manchester Museum's Human Natures exhibition!

🌳 A survey by @scotlandtbp.bsky.social has shown that rewilded sites in Scotland have had HUGE implications for wildlife populations, with bird populations growing up to fivefold and bees and butterflies up to tenfold! This goes to show that rewilding really works.
🦫 Beavers have been recognised as a native species in Wales, granting them specific protections that will help the reintroduction of this iconic mammal into the Welsh landscape!
⛰️ The UK Government will lift the paywall that guards large parts of the land registry, meaning for the first time who owns our land will be public information. This could revolutionise nature and climate strategy! Shoutout to @guyshrubsole.bsky.social for all his work campaigning on this!
🐑 The High Court has ruled that the Dartmoor commons have been mismanaged by the Dartmoor Commoners Council, with extensive overgrazing damaging the local ecosystem, following a claim presented by @wildjustice.bsky.social. This is a huge step in ensuring that nature on Dartmoor flourishes!
Happy #RewildingRoundup! Here are some of our top stories from March 🧵
🕊️ UK wildlife will soon feature on Bank of England banknotes! Following a public consultation set to take place this summer, your fivers could soon be adorned with beavers, robins and foxes!

Wild Card are asking leaders of the @churchofengland.org to do exactly this by calling on their investment body, the Church Commissioners, to commit to restoring nature on their vast landholdings.
Write to your local representative here: actionnetwork.org/letters/help...
A brave, much-needed statement from the letter's signatories! As influential figures in religious institutions, Church leaders must hold each other to account and exercise the moral responsibility that guides religious practice.

Wild Card's #RewildTheGhostWoods campaign is calling for accelerated progress on PAWS restoration to meet national climate progress. We have FAQs about the campaign over on our website: wildcard.land/campaigns/re...
Watch the whole clip here (beginning at 10:56): parliamentlive.tv/event/index/...
In the last decade, 20,000 hectares of PAWS have been restored by the Forestry Commission. But the 2021 Environment Act calls for 500,000 hectares of wildlife-rich habitat to be restored by 2042.
Ancient woodlands are vital to achieve this as the most biodiverse habitat in the UK.
Huge thanks to @joshnewburymp.bsky.social for bringing questions about Plantation on Ancient Woodland Sites (PAWS) restoration to yesterday's EFRA Committee session.
Here @marycreagh.bsky.social explains the state of PAWS restoration in the UK, highlighting a key disparity 🧵
Last Friday we hosted our very own #RewildTheGhostWoods zine launch! 🥳
Huge thanks to everyone who came, collaged postcards for #DEFRA, and supported our zine. A special thank you to the artists that performed!

This Saturday we'll join the Together march in central London to say no to hate and division.
The rising antisemitism and Islamophobia we’re seeing in our communities shows this is needed more than ever.

Great to see Environment APPG member @carladenyer.bsky.social asking Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds about the introduction of a bottom-trawling ban at the Environmental Audit Committee. The Government has yet to respond to its consultation. 🌊 🐠
This April, some of England's largest landowners are obliged to publish estate management plans, through being members of the National Estate for Nature.
The privately-owned Clinton Devon Estate has published its plan early, and it looks really good: 1/

Happy #WorldRewildingDay! 🌱
Today, we’re celebrating rewilding in all its wild and wonderful glory. Forests buzzing with birdsong. Seagrass meadows sheltering marine life. Peat bogs locking away carbon.

The first-ever Land Use Framework for England has been published.
I think it is the most far-sighted plan for England's land since the Second World War.
Here's my thoughts on what it does (& doesn't) do: 1/

This week we are celebrating #TheBig5Sussex: Five years of seabed protection from trawling - thanks to the protection afforded by the @sussex_ifca Nearshore Trawling Byelaw 2021 - is giving Sussex’s marine habitats like kelp, mussel beds and chalk reefs the space they need to recover. 🌱
