A map of the US showing home-insurance premiums as a percentage of household income by county. the highest percentages are in Florida, as you'd expect, but also vast swaths of the Midwest and South. Source: Bloomberg Intelligence
No place is immune to the impacts of a hotter planet. One example: People outside the usual suspects of Cali and Florida are suffering the most from soaring home-insurance premiums

Data, of course
The next time somebody tries to tell you solar panels compete with farmland, you can say that not only do they coexist with farmland, they can sometimes *make their own rain*

If only we lived in Half-Earth Socialism's universe
Once more with feeling: Technology that definitely generates carbon plus technology not yet proven to remove carbon at scale does *not* equal negative emissions
A Forbes article about a father who killed eight children, with an embedded prediction widget inviting people to speculate on whether "Congress will pass new gun safety legislation before 31st December 2026"
ghoulish
SCOTUS in its current configuration isn’t just bad for democracy, it’s actively working against a livable environment
But hey we’ve got the Waffle House teleporter
"Even as they debated the Obama plan’s possible burden on the power industry, in the entire chain of correspondence obtained by The Times, not a single justice … mentioned the dangers of a warming planet as one of the possible harms the court should consider.” www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...
For sure. Just wistful that we could be in the same boat but are wallowing far from it
An apt illustration of the bind Trump has gotten the US into. The global economy is now subject fighting between Israel and hezbollah. Iran didn’t know quite how easy this wld be until Trump forced them to try. www.cnbc.com/2026/04/17/i...

Ah, gotcha. Definitely sounds preferable to the Appalachian trail at the moment
Stay safe out there

Chart: Rooftop Solar Surges in Trump's State Under Republican Law Applications for permission to build home solar in Florida Three separate lines, one for each year of 2024, 2025 and 2026. The 2024 line tops out at about 200 megawatts through the first 13 weeks of the year. the 2025 line tops out at about 100 in the same time period. The 2026 line is already pushing 500 mW. Source: Bloomberg NEF
This must be an accident: Rooftop solar is straight up booming in Florida after a GOP bill removed hurdles to installations, per BNEF. The state's on track to install 700 mw of panels, about 2x last year.
Trump's self-made energy emergency means he'll be surrounded by solar panels
He's The Deep
I feel better already
