It should worry you that the One Nation candidate on track to win Farrer thinks it is "above his paygrade" whether Gina Rinehart is funding the party.

Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

Gang, there's 48 hours or so left to get The Onion in your real-life mailbox while it's extremely on sale. $75 for the year. You're going to want to do this while it's mad cheap this week. Trust me, you won't regret it.
membership.theonion.com
Full-page “ad” in the March-April 2026 The Onion with a grid of 12 images of beaks (10 bird, 1 octopus, 1 squid), with text at the bottom reading: Beaks Bird tested, cephalopod approved. (Not a paid advertisement)
I’m not sure whether it’s the current moment or the general fact of an empty, uncaring universe, but the so much of the latest issue of @theonion.com is hitting me right.
You deserve more subscribers than the Washington Post, @bencollins.bsky.social.
Page one: text on black background, “WAKE UP!”. Eyes open, a baby sea turtle with an eggshell helmet says, “you need to wake up!”
Page 2: helmet turtle says to a green baby sea turtle, who is waking up out off his egg, “we need to get moving.” CRASH! A cormorant breaks through the ceiling of their nest hole. Helmet turtle says MOVE!
Page 3: “when you’re out there, beeline to the water. Don’t stop. Don’t be a hero. Godspeed.” The helmet turtle kicks baby green turtle out the hole off a cliff onto the beach below.
Page 4: baby green turtle lands on the sand. The distance between him and the water is quite large. Another baby sea turtle is being devoured by a seagull and is screaming for help.

The fuel and cost-of-living crises are hitting hard. But there is simply no excuse for anyone going hungry in one of the richest countries in the world. Many Australians are in need of emergency food relief because the Gov's priorities are currently wrong #auspol #politas
"The commission found that a former prime minister did not act corruptly because it would not benefit him to do so ... It appears ignorance of the law is no excuse for an average citizen, but ignorance of the obligations of your public offices is sufficient excuse for a politician." satpa.pe/6b3CYsb
A written statement from artist James Hillier / Nordacious regarding contact from Queensland Police about artworks containing slogans recently criminalised under new Queensland hate speech laws. The second image shows three Nordacious illustrations - with the words on their clothing and signage obscured by yellow and red CENSORED stamps.
A statement regarding recent contact from Queensland Police about my work.
We just keep letting our governments wage stupid, self defeating wars on the future and we could be so much better. Democracies need high standards and we've been beaten into submission into expecting the least possible, which is what we get. Demand better. Make them fear your vote.
It's funny that this isn't reported as "racism". Because that's what it is: racism.
Really excited that the RBA has worked out how to lower oil prices by forcing Australians to pay more on their loans. That’ll learn them!

The NACC report is astonishing for just how many non-sequiturs, excuses and naive assumptions can be packed into 455 pages. The deputy commissioner who authored it is not a judge, unlike Catherine Holmes. And it shows. www.crikey.com.au/2026/03/13/n...

“the thinker of tender thoughts” by shel silverstein [an illustration depicting a boy growing into a man. as he grows, his hair grows out as flowers. people laugh at him for it and he becomes sad. he starts trimming off the flowers, but as he reaches the last one he stops. he is then depicted with a smile and a flower in his buttonhole on his jacket.]

For those who have forgotten the past 40 years:
Tax cuts for the rich
...don’t trickle down
Boosting military spending
...doesn’t bring peace
Slashing regulations
...doesn’t create jobs
Folks, we’ve seen this all before.
If it’s true that the United States bombed an elementary school and killed scores of children it is an unfathomable crime. I have never been more disgusted to be an American.
Guy alters my cartoon by AI in a way my workplace lawyers specifically advised me against, posts his version which violates my intellectual property. I ask him repeatedly to delete, he admits he doesn’t know how then tells me to provide the legal argument for him to do it.

Do we really want a world where the strong can do as they please and the weak suffer as they must? I wrote for The Guardian today about why Australia shouldn’t stand for this, and why international law matters for a middle power like Australia #auspol #politas

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else.
We mustn’t let this war do so.
