1. My grandfather, an avid Fox News and Limbaugh consumer, spent his final years terrified Obama was funding ISIS agents to cross the Mexican border and invade his dinky farm town in Wisconsin. When he died I found guns hidden around the house.

2. Last year I was speaking in a tiny town in the Wisconsin up north and spoke with a woman, a Medicaid recipient with a disability, who told me about how she got her rabid Trump-supporting family to vote for Harris in 2024 — by explaining to them what a Trump presidency would mean for her life.

3. I think it's perfectly fine to yell 'Do Something!' at elected officials and leave it to them to figure out what that 'something' is. You're the best and brightest; act like it.

4. I wonder to what extent the biannual, multibillion-dollar, eighteen-month election cycle stultifies the American political animal.

5. I think the great American archetype is not the cowboy. It is the shut-in.

6. If it weren't the phones, it would be something else. But I think it's the phones.

Completely unstable and perilous. The House must bring up impeachment articles, and the Senate needs to remove a president who wants to commit war crimes. We cannot sit idly by as Donald Trump threatens to end an entire civilization.

Coming soon! Inspired by that dude you'll meet at any seafood festival on the Chesapeake. Like the one-legged guy selling alligator nuggets who told twelve-year-old me, 'it counts cuz they're coming on up. give it a hundred years.'

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

A screen shot from one of the Thor films (Thor: Ragnarok), with a dark haired pale skinned woman wearing dark eye makeup and clothing (Cate Blanchett playing Hela, Thor's elder sister) holding her arm straight out, braced against Thor's hammer that has been thrown at her. The scene is over a green field under a cloudy gray sky. The hammer is labeled "It's basic biology". She is labeled "Advanced Biology".

There's a long, bad journalistic tradition: All conservative grass-roots political movements are fascinating heartland phenomena, all progressive grass-roots political movements are ineffectual bleating. This one is written off as powered by white female college grads--the wine-moms slur, basically.

THREAD: Cherise Doyley was in her 12th hour of contractions at the hospital when a tablet was brought to her bedside.

On the screen was a Zoom call with a judge and several lawyers and doctors.

She was in court, a nurse told her. The reason? For failing to agree to a C-section.
