Hopefully it’s a one off and the staff they have are able to still make sure the core of the platform functions normally. Just been happening a lot recently. And do wonder what the long term financial viability of this site is if the userbase numbers stay stagnant

Hopefully some wealthy donors help

Finally, an Oscars for People Who Actually Bother to Watch Movies In between spoilers for movies like Weapons and One Battle After Another, the 2026 ceremony took aim at the tech bros and execs threatening cinema.

Loved the fact that various Oscar bits and clips "spoiled" the endings of ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER and WEAPONS and other films last night. It was almost like the show had finally stopped worrying about appealing to people who don't bother to watch the movies. www.vulture.com/article/the-...

For Once, the Oscars Got a Lot Right (Even the In Memoriam Segment)

This is the last thing I will be saying about this year's Oscars (with @manohladargis.bsky.social):

The Premier League is boring now: A tactical way to save it The Premier League just isn't as fun as it used to be. But ESPN's Ryan O'Hanlon has figured out a way to fix it, if one coach is brave enough.

The Premier League has been terrible to watch this season, and the league is stuck in a tactical stalemate that can seemingly only be broken by corner kicks and throw-ins. I wrote about how one brave coach might be able to break free: www.espn.com/soccer/story...

He doesn’t even run Amazon anymore, he hasn’t been the CEO there for a while. Unclear what irrelevant side project companies he’s doing this all for really

Will Lewis’s background is British tabloid media, which isn’t actually “journalism”. He’s just a deeply incompetent hack, I think that’s all there is to it.

Lot of alarms were raised when he was first hired. There’s no real path or plan to anything going on.

‘Natchez’: Histories Clash in a Complex Look at the City

I first saw NATCHEZ on something of a whim last August when I was up in Middlebury, VT to speak on a panel about journalism at the film festival there, and I have thought about it an awful lot since then. It's starting its theatrical run, and worth your attention.

Bluesky is just terrible for this stuff. Old Twitter when it was more left dominated wasn’t this bad

The Champions League group phase has merits but it’s bloated. This is how to fix it The 'Swiss-style' format produced last-day drama but still feels bloated - a compromise is needed

The old Champions League group stage was a bit dull. The new one is too mad to understand what's happening. How about a compromise?

Yup, the alternative to Rubio was Tucker Carlson. Rubio is the best you’d get with any Republican President. Likewise, multiple Senate Republicans voted to confirm Blinken.

Klobuchar is an excellent candidate who’s always outperformed other dems in the cycles she’s ran in

You’re completely correct but bluesky isn’t gonna be the audience to grasp this point sadly

“We want generational change!”

Pete Buttigieg: Hi

“No no not like that!!”

Interesting how this all went down on Threads, the one platform I’ve never touched or really get what the point of it is relative to bluesky or x.

lol yes, as someone who follows both politics and soccer, having twitter/bluesky feeds combining both at times - leads to an over saturation of the same reference.

We don’t appreciate enough sometimes how far modern streaming and technology has made sports so much better and easier to consume. In the old days, people struggled to find certain games on tv depending on where they lived

Try “Line of Duty” for British stuff that was popular a few years ago during its run if you haven’t.

Joe Root.

Joe Root.

Joe Root is now the second highest runscorer in Tests thanks to another flawless century.

He is the Peter Pan of cricket who just gets better and better.

He is now closing on Sachin Tendulkar - surpass him and the record will surely be his forever.

The Red Sox are 16-9 since the Devers trade. Are they a better team now than they were before dealing one of the best hitters in baseball? "I do know we're a different team." A look at what's gone into the Sox surge, and what does - and doesn't - relate to Devers: www.bostonglobe.com/2025/07/17/s...

I remember this year rewatching the 2013 AFC Championship Game between the Patriots and Ravens. Was striking just how much more physical even that was lol, compared to now.

Ironically this women’s final is actually a rare moment where both the men and women’s finals at the same Grand Slam are between the top 2 seeds in both.

But would recommend watching YouTube docs about stories like Raducanu US Open 2021 if you haven’t.

One thing that’s different about women’s tennis compared to the men is the higher variance and underdog surges in the women’s game. Men’s tennis traditionally dominated by “the Big 3”. Now Sinner and Alcarez.

Whereas women’s side, you get insane stories like Emma Raducanu US Open 2021.

There’s a divide in every sport between the men’s version and women’s version. Historic gap between the NBA and WNBA, between men and women’s soccer.

But I would say tennis actually does the best sport of “equalising” the two and giving parity to both. Grand Slams and ATP tournies center both.

Wasn’t counting 20th century, true about Clara. Shame they just don’t have companions carry over, wish Yaz had stayed

It’s genuinely a great matchup. Knicks would have been too easy for OKC. People who only care about the big market aspect of these things should probably stop watching basketball. The actual game is what matters.

PSG’s historic moment should provoke serious questions over football’s future Paris Saint-Germain 5-0 Inter Milan: Luis Enrique’s team were excellent but their record-breaking victory was unsettling and exposed the two sides of sport

Qatar win the European Cup. An absurd sentence, but a farce of a match, that was an exhibition of superior power - in multiple senses

The record scoreline symbolised the scale of football's issues

You can be happy for Luis Enrique and concerned for this
