RFK Jr’s performance during his Hearing-o-Rama was a complete disgrace and an unequivocal demonstration of his utter lack of understanding of or respect for any scientific principle.

His contempt for the people of this country was palpable.

We are all just collateral damage of careless people.

My sympathies to you and her other loved ones. She sounds like a great friend. We could all use not only a tea party friend but one that knows exactly when we need that tea.

Anyway, fuck cancer.

In February 1777, General George Washington ordered the first mass immunization campaign in American history by mandating that his troops be inoculated against smallpox. He protected the Continental Army from an epidemic that was deadlier than British forces.

249 years later, we have this idiot.

Eh, I can't speak for anyone else (and I'd expect to be the minority) but I'm an extreme introvert, plus I'm disabled with an autoimmune condition. Being confined to a tiny social bubble with my favorite people with zero pressure to leave the house was blissful. I'm sure they felt differently though

Almost feel bad for NBA Champion Tiago Splitter...has a ring yet the fourth best Spurs center in attendance, at best.

The Inside Story of Five Days That Remade the Supreme Court

There’s so much to say about the remarkable reporting from Jodi Kantor & Adam Liptak—and I’ll say a lot of it in Monday’s newsletter.

But the most striking thing about all of it is the role & behavior of Chief Justice Roberts. “Calling balls and strikes” this ain’t:

I don't know about the "inconvenience" (seems ridiculous) but I love these things (as an xennial) and actively work to pass down that love to the z/alpha folks in my life. The alphas I know in particular seem very distrustful or even hostile toward most "modern" things, especially and SaS & AI

Well now, I'm onboard with some great KC sauce!

And seriously, I do hope your smoke and weekend go as well as possible.

I'm genuinely sorry for you loss. I think what you're doing is amazing. Caring for others as they work through grief is tough.

That said, you lost me with the Carolina bbq. To get that much butt on Weber is impressive work, only to ruin it at the end. So help me if you put mustard in your slaw...

I know it can often feel like we're shouting into a void and no one hears, but I heard you tonight and just that little bit of validation that I'm not alone was a great boost. I don't often write directly like this, but I wanted you to know that your shouting mattered.

@todd-m-stein.bsky.social I've been mostly off this app for awhile, partly from a crash and partly just from the mental fatigue that is currently life in America. I'm sorry that it's a "misery enjoys company" situation but coming back and seeing your posts has been uplifting. I feel seen. Thank you.

aside from the shocking! reveal, it really goes to show how much they love getting lied to that the amount she was getting taxed on $11,000 in tips is supposed to cover cancer treatment, the loss of her husband's income, and a few vacations

plus an $1,800 car repair in the next post

It’s painful to look at the amount taken from our modest paychecks and visualize it paying for those skull-covered challenge coins for ICE goons while NIH researchers are laid off.

The degradation of society:
1. Celebrating the k!lling of a CEO
2. Cheering on warehouse arsons
3. Making heroes out of people who attempt political violence
You can be outraged at the system and still not glorify violence. These aren't wins. This is a society losing its moral compass.
[Coming from a liberal btw]

I don’t know how people keep forgetting that workers rights were entirely written in blood and the capital class had to be threatened with violence before they agreed to things like 8 hour working days and 2 day weekends.

I was raised on conspiracy thrillers in which brave reporters, backed by their tough-but-righteous editors, risked bodily harm to unearth terrible crimes against citizens. Justice! But in our world these reporters just get quietly fired for telling truths no one cares to hear and the public shrugs.

so, where does fascism come from?

well, we could get into the whole napoleon thing, but let's get to one of biggest drivers up it:

fascism gets going when industry gets too big for its britches, and a bunch of rich fuckers try to take power to make money.

I'm as straight-arrow, vanilla, white bread as they come. I don't even cheat in Monopoly. I'm so generically dull you'll need to resharpen your kitchen knives if I visit.

Yet, I'll be angry if I don't make this stupid list of First Amendment rights and historically accurate American values.

A core finding of my forthcoming book on the history of US CT in Afghanistan is that you cannot, in fact, just kill people you think are bad and have it all be fine 🙄

A titan of vaccine development sees his field’s achievements slip away Stanley Plotkin, the 93-year-old "godfather of vaccines," is watching his field’s achievements slip away.

“In a pair of recent interviews with STAT, Plotkin expressed dismay at seeing the achievements of his career & his field slip away. He knows what lies ahead…
“All I can say is that I’m beginning to regret having lived so long —because we’re going downhill,” Plotkin said” @jackiantonovich.bsky.social

How are teenagers in small-town Texas (Buda, population ~16,000) braver than the entire business elite combined?

Opinion | The Comey Indictment Plunges the Country Into a Grave New Period As despots have done for centuries, Trump is persecuting people he considers his enemies, with little justification other than raw political power.

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

With James Comey’s indictment, President Trump “has removed any pretense that the law is blind,” the editorial board writes. “As despots have done for centuries, he is persecuting people he considers his enemies, with little justification other than raw political power.”

ICE *already* can't meet their detainment numbers without rounding up children, veterans, people born in the U.S., people with no criminal records, people at immigration hearings, plus academics and visitors with valid visas.

So who do they plan to detain with >10x the budget?

The answer is: you.

A reminder that when you make a new armed force like this, it doesn’t ever get shut down, job done. It continues to be given new reasons to exist, with new enemies invented to justify its existence due to ever increasing vested interests.

I know I'm not the first person or even the millionth person to point this out; it's not even the first time *I* have said it, but this is what actual First Amendment violations look like and the fact that none of the supposed free speech warriors are saying anything about it tells us everything.
