Picture of a black bassador in the snow with snow on his face and back.
Rufus loves playing in the snow. It’s deeper that his short legs are ling, but he charges through anyhow.

In the beginning what seems to be the MC is so very un-likeable. Later characters are better but few are anyone I’d want to spend time with irl.
I finished Cyteen by C. J. Cherryh (started in Dec - it’s a huge book). An intense read of psychological/sociological SF.
I also really enjoyed Cat Rambo’s You Sexy Thing. Space opera with a sentient ship.
Picture shows mossy tree roots and a small fern with a rocky creek bed in the background.
Another photo from our hike last weekend. We skipped rocks on Walnut Creek. Rufus waded but was not allowed to swim.
Picture shows two striped acorns nestled into fallen leaves, all shades of brown.
Acorns off the Greenway Trail in Asbury Park
Tall tree trunks with sparse yellow leaves. The ground is covered in autumn leaves.
We went for a hike in Asbury Woods today. This is the head of the trail.

I think this is my number! I have not read Hoffman’s books but will look them up!
I had an amazing time at Confluence (SF, fantasy, horror convention in Pittsburgh)! It felt great connecting with friends *in person*. I don’t do that often enough.
Stupidly, I didn’t take a single picture. :(
to make up for it, I’ll be posting links to books by the amazing people at the con.
Second half is more bleak.
I did go on. An amazing piece of literature. One of the best I’ve read.
I’m halfway through Service Model and it is fucking amazing. The most fun I’ve had reading since… Starter Villain.
“And there was this mighty clear sky full of stars that made you stop and look up, your head empty as a ladle as you tried to locate yourself inside an immeasurable universe.”
Behold the beauty!!!
I was a First Reader for this anthology featuring women antiheroes. Can’t wait to get my copy of the final selections!
The first of 2025!
Beautiful
Currently about halfway through The Emperor of Gladness.
My heart is already broken; I’m afraid to go on.
Live your freedoms while you’ve got them!
I have found this to be true as well. In person, people are mostly kind.
Perhaps some of it is white privilege, in my case, but I certainly fly my freak flag openly.
We went fishing yesterday, and I caught and released this lovely sunfish!
Erie is a sanctuary city for refugees. And city officials assure us the local PD are not supporting ICE. Still, we’re all nervous.
Want to start an ICE watch program in your neighborhood? Here’s dome real advice. There is a handbook link in the article.

@bookshopghost.bsky.social this one is for you:
We’ve got lovely yellow irises that crept under the fence from our neighbor’s garden.
Vinny(7), slowly falling into the crack between her bed and the wall: Help me, Mama!
Me, calmly: Where are you going?
Vinny: Into the abyss…!
This looks like fun!
As I wake to the 81st day of the Fall of the American Empire, the question I contemplate:
Which version of "Hurt" is more appropriate as a soundtrack to the decline? The Johnny Cash cover, or the Nine Inch Nails original? 🤔

I had a teacher make us turn in our notecards first!
An exercise in boredom.
Congratulations!!!
