I've been going through my archives for NES Wolverine and have managed to re-assemble my original 6502 game code and create a build from the 1st August 1990. As you can see it's a VERY early demo with the 8-way scroll routine, panel and collision working. No Wolverine sprites yet!

The real reason you shouldn’t buy the Neo Geos isn’t because of the price but because they’re owned by Saudi Arabia.
If there were a tie-in, it'd be announced alongside the title. Random merchandise is always ongoing.
I can't think of any other reason why character-based merchandise for one of the most beloved video games ever is only finally showing up now. It's not like anything with the concerned parties has changed lately.
